Throughout Starfield’s development, there were many questions about how long is too long regarding the story and adventure of the game itself. Recently, players have been divided over whether or not they prefer a long story and world to explore that can take hundreds of hours or just 10-20 hours. This is something that was also discussed during the development of Starfield.

When talking about the size and scale of Starfield, Todd Howard expressed his own opinion regarding the scope of Starfield and how it will appeal to different gamers. He believes there are some gamers who do enjoy a short experience and will enjoy a 10-20 hour story and ignore the exploration.

Still, there are those who want to explore the vast universe the studio has created and want to find every side quest and see all that there is to see. Howard believe Starfield will appeal to both players.

What Was It Like Developing Starfield?

Todd Howard talks about his concerns regarding Starfield’s production.

Throughout the development process, there were many worries for Todd Howard as he felt the team was doing something they had never done before. Even though he had worked on games like Skyrim and Fallout 4, which are pretty significant as well, he felt Starfield  an even bigger project. He explained:

I had a moment of realisation of just how much we’d have to design, there’s a lot of space in space!”

Once the development of Starfield progressed, however, they began to feel a lot more confident in the project the more they could see it coming together. Howard explained that when testing out the game and how it ran, you could get lost in the world. You could just load up the game to try one thing and the next minute have wasted several hours without even realizing it.

Near the end of the development process, Todd Howard began to see how well the project was going as he was able to see the game gel together and be something players would want to keep playing. He realized that even when players stopped, they would be left with the thought of what will I do next in Starfield and where can I explore once I have completed this side quest?

Since its release, many of the fans of Starfield have been amazed by the freedom they have and the choices to make in the vast space that has been created for them by Bethesda. It was well worth the wait, and due to this response from gamers, it has alleviated the anxiety Todd Howard had during the development period and has shown that Starfield is an amazing game.
