Angelina Jolie has done a lot of movies that explore some interesting themes. Whether it is the theme of love, marriage, a familial bond, or just the story of brave and bold people, the actress has always been first in line to want to understand these concepts. The actress also happens to be someone who is very strong on her morals, setting them in stone.
So while she was filming a movie with Brad Pitt, things came tumbling down as she would often go back and forth with the director about how the movie should and should not go. Especially when it touched on her own morals and conflicted with the director about how Doug Liman thought of marriage differently than she did.
Angelina Jolie Was Not Okay With How Doug Liman Was Showcasing Marriage
While filming Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Angelina Jolie found herself in the midst of conflicting views. Both she and Doug Liman would often go back and forth about how they saw marriage. Arguments had been common on the set because the thematic concern of the movie had been the marriage of Jane and John Smith, played by Jolie and Brad Pitt respectively.
“Oh, we had troubles! The movie is all about marriage, and Doug would be saying, ‘Well, in my relationship this would happen….’ And we’d all say, ‘F**k you!’ and I’d say, ‘Well, in my marriage I would never do that.'”
The actress would at times stop an idea that Liman might be having and so would other people on the set. Jolie even saw this to be a healthy exchange of opinions amongst everyone. Often enough, it would be about how Liman saw his own relationships and marriage as compared to how Jolie saw her own relationships and marriages. This had been a recurring instance on the set of the movie.
Brad Pitt Left Mr. And Mrs. Smith Twice
The initial cast for Mr. and Mrs. Smith was supposed to have Nicole Kidman instead of Angelina Jolie. However, the actress chose not to do the film. When Brad Pitt found out about it, he also chose against doing the movie. Neither Pitt nor Kidman was set to appear in the movie afterward. However, that all changed when Angelina Jolie joined the cast. Once the actress became a part of the movie, Pitt was once again willing to play the male protagonist alongside her.
The second instance had Pitt leaving the filming of the movie right in between and that too for four months. That was because he had gone to film Ocean’s Eleven at that time. Moreover, there was no pay gap between the two lead characters and they were both paid equally.
