Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is giving a promising performance given that its predecessor Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse introduced Miles Morales/Spider-Man to the audiences back in 2018 with several other elements involved that made it successful.

Now, the new film has earned $120.5 million in its domestic box office debut. As for the international market, it has grabbed $88.1 million, thus bringing its worldwide total to $208.6 million.

Due to the amazing opening weekend collection, the film now becomes the second-biggest opening of 2023 to date beating Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Not just that, it has also earned the credit of the best debut ever for Sony Pictures Animation, and the third-biggest opening for any Spider-Man film.

Given the exceptional opening, online commentators are also putting their good words for the film. Check out the tweet here.

It has surpassed its predecessor, which opened to $35 million domestically. The Into the Spider-Verse ended its theatrical run with $190 million in North America and $384 million globally. Given the hype the 2018 film created among fans, it is quite steady as the new film’s box office debut has surpassed 2022’s Shazam 2 entire big-screen run collection.

Despite starring an ensemble cast of Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, and Jack Dylan Grazer among several others, Shazam! Fury of the Gods earned $133.4 million worldwide. Well, it did set a record as the film now holds the position of being the lowest-grossing DCEU film.

It received mixed to negative reviews with film critics considering it inferior to its predecessor. Not just that, but a few other factors also added to its failure. One such factor was extreme competency with films like Creed 365, Scream 6, John Wick Chapter 4, and Dungeons & Dragons. Getting to release on such a compact market surely affected the overall performance.

What was majorly pointed out as its failure was faulty marketing which revealed too much information in the trailers that many fans complained about. All these factors led to the worst expected result which the film bore.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is available to stream on HBO Max meanwhile Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is running in theatres.
