In a Bid To Increase Their Already Insane Viewership Numbers, HBO Max Makes 'The Last of Us' Episode 1 Free to Watch for All

The Last of Us has become one of the most successful video game adaptations, and it has been the talk of the town as the show has been loved immensely by the fans of the game and the critics have shown positive responses to the show.

Recently HBO Max played a ‘dangerous’ game of making the first episode of The Last of Us free to watch. This decision was dangerous but it paid well to HBO as they managed to hook more viewers to The Last of Us and push up the viewership numbers even more, and the show managed to gain 22% more viewership from episode 1 to episode 2 of the HBO series.

Why Did HBO Max Make The Last of Us Free to Watch?

The Last of Us has been the most successful TV series on HBO Max, the series managed to achieve the position of the second-biggest premiere of the decade on the OTT platform. The show was loved by the fans of the game, and the viewership of the series rose by 22% from episode 1 to episode 2, which is the highest growth rate on the streaming platform. 

However, HBO Max wanted to increase the viewership of The Last of Us even more therefore, they decided to make the series free to watch, to be clear only the first episode of the show. It was a bold move by HBO Max, despite having immense faith in the show. This bold move aged well as the viewers who don’t have a membership on HBO Max can watch the first episode of The Last of Us for free, as those viewers got a taste of what they are missing out on.

The plot of the series is the same as the video game, which is set in a post-apocalyptic world, where Joel is assigned to rescue Ellie, a teenage girl. They have to travel across the post-apocalyptic United States full of zombies.

The third episode of The Last of Us will be available to stream on 29th January 2023, on HBO Max.
