Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is only a couple of months away from release, and fans of the long-running first-person shooter franchise couldn’t be more excited to finally get their hands on it. However, there has definitely been some confusion regarding these recent Call of Duty releases that have the same titles as games from a decade ago, such as Modern Warfare 2.
Fortunately, the official Call of Duty blog has shared an extensive post that answers the majority of the frequently asked questions that have been on everyone’s minds, such as how much of your progress will you be able to “carry forward” to the new game.
What is ‘Carry Forward’ in Modern Warfare 3?
You may be wondering how much of your progress from Modern Warfare 2 or Warzone gets transferred to the upcoming Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. This can include in-game aspects like your personalized arsenal or character cosmetics. The official Call of Duty blog thoroughly explains just how much of your saved content from the previous games is accessible in MW3.
Which brings us to something called “Carry Forward,” an initiative by Call of Duty that brings your hard-earned achievements into Modern Warfare 3. This is historical for the franchise because it’s the first time that the developers are allowing previous content to be available in the next title. For example, from the moment you start playing the upcoming game, your arsenal will have a combination of weapons from both the new title and Modern Warfare 2.
“Carry Forward” takes content that is currently available in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone and makes it directly accessible from day one in Modern Warfare 3. From Bundles to Operators and plenty of other unlocked rewards and weapons, Call of Duty assures you that not much of your previous progress will be wasted.
Of course, just a tiny bit of content may not carry over to the upcoming CoD title if the new game doesn’t support a specific kind of gameplay offering. For example, if MW3 doesn’t have a certain kind of equipment and you have unlocked Skins for that in MW2, those will not be available in MW3.
