Netflix’s recent live-action adaptation of the classic anime One Piece has been garnering a lot of attention as well as praise. Seeing how live-action remakes usually fare, fans were very very speculative before its release. However, surprisingly and shockingly it couldn’t have been better. From the cast to the storyline, everything is going well so far.
Emily Rudd, the actor for Straw Hat crew member Nami, has been enjoying it despite the challenges of the action sequences. However, one thing from her past, that not many know about, has been an immense help for her to ace all of Nami’s stunts and actions.
Emily Rudd’s Past Helped Her Prepare For One Piece
Netflix’s One Piece live-action remake features Emily Rudd as the crew’s expert navigator and the one who basically holds them together. However, Nami, Rudd’s character can also do some cool stunts and actions. The anime is an action-filled odyssey with an amazing pirate adventure storyline, and the live-action remake does not disappoint in bringing it all to the big screen.
For Rudd, from the shoot to the whole collaboration was an amazing journey. However, there was one thing that she found a little bit challenging but her past experience was there to help her out.
In an interview with Games Radar, the actress stated,
“I think emotionally, that moment for Nami’s story was the hardest. But I did find the stunt work to be a new challenge. I grew up doing karate. I’m technically a black belt, but I got that when I was like 10/11? So, it’s been a long time since I’ve touched a bo staff.”
She added how she had to re-learn all the stuff but enjoyed it all despite the difficulty.
“So, kind of refamiliarizing myself and in such a relatively fast-paced way, in how you film stunt sequences where you do it over and over again, and you have all of these different variables, people coming at you. I think that was a challenge I knew was going to be a challenge, but it was a fun one as well.”
And so far, just as Rudd wants, fans have been loving it all.
Emily Rudd Wants People To Fall In Love With One Piece
The One Piece manga came out in 1997 and since then has been adapted into anime, feature films, video games, and whatnot. Since its release, it has inspired and engaged viewers for its amazing storyline. Now easily one of the best-selling manga series in the world, its live-action remake has been making headlines.
Emily Rudd, the star of the series, wants ‘new’ viewers to fall in love with it just as millions of others already have. She stated (via Games Radar),
“I think my ultimate dream is that people who were maybe reluctant to watch the anime or read the manga take a chance on our show and fall in love with it in the same way that I and millions of other people have fallen in love with One Piece, because it is so special, and I hope that existing fans feel the love that was put into it because there was a lot.”
And her wish has been coming true for fans and new viewers have been really enjoying it.
One Piece can be streamed on Netflix.
