Both Matt Damon and Tom Cruise are some of the top names who aren’t afraid to pull off dangerous stunts on their own, but even Damon was left astonished by Cruise’s commitment to the craft. With every new installment in his filmography, the Mission: Impossible star has kept on increasing his bar by pulling off death-defying stunts by himself that even the Jason Bourne star is afraid of.
While opening up about his phobia of heights, Matt Damon explained why he couldn’t reach the level of Cruise when it comes to performing stunts, as he explained the lengths that Cruise goes to.
Matt Damon admitted that he can’t match Tom Cruise’s dedication when it comes to stunts
Even though Matt Damon has made a substantial name for himself in the realm of action, he brushed off the chances of him reaching the level of Tom Cruise‘s dedication to his stunts. While recalling his dinner with Cruise and Emily Blunt in London, Damon was left astonished after learning that Cruise allegedly fired his safety guy to continue filming the Burj Khalifa stunt. Considering the scene required him to use suction gloves to climb the skyscraper, his safety guy was allegedly reluctant about the whole thing, Which led to Cruise hiring a new safety guy. Matt Damon recalled,
“I looked at him and I’m like, ‘Well, I’m tapping out because you win. You are the best. At that point, when the safety guy, whose only job is to keep you safe, says ‘That’s too dangerous,’ my reaction is ‘Too bad we can’t do that sequence I came up with. It would have been really cool.’ His reaction is ‘No, we’re getting another safety guy.'”
But Matt Damon isn’t the lone A-lister who was left startled after witnessing Cruise’s unreal commitment, as the Mission: Impossible star Henry Cavill had something similar to say about the actor.
Henry Cavill recalled Tom Cruise’s unreal commitment to his stunts
Although Tom Cruise doesn’t seem to slow down anytime soon with his crazy stunts, it seems even injury can’t hold the actor back for too long. While reflecting on their working experience on Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Henry Cavill recalled Tom Cruise breaking his ankle while jumping off a building and despite the doctor advising him to stop performing these stunts, the actor was back on his feet in no time. Cavill expressed his astonishment toward his costar’s dedication by stating,
“I’m not sure he bleeds. He actually-when he broke his ankle on set…He was told immediately by doctors, who said you won’t be able to use it or put weight properly on it until like six months from now. And he said, okay, that’s not okay, that’s not going to work and you may never run again…six weeks later he was running again.”
With the next installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise around the corner, Tom Cruise has once again showcased his skills and the lengths that he is willing to go to for the perfect shot.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One will hit theatres on 12 July 2023.
