With the DC universe inching toward its eventual reboot, Shazam! Fury of the Gods will be one of the last remnants of the previous failed DCEU. And even though the future of the Shazam family in the new universe is uncertain, Grace Currey has been pretty confident about her future in the DCU.
Although the future of her and the rest of the cast in the DCU after the sequel is under wraps, the actress has been pretty outspoken about her love for DC and shared her want to move forward in the new universe. But despite being inclined towards DC, she also hasn’t banished the idea of starring in a Marvel movie in the foreseeable future.
Grace Currey is optimistic about her future in the new James Gunn-led DCU
Just like her Shazam co-star Zachary Levi, Grace Currey has also been pretty optimistic about her future in the new DCU under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran. And the actress believes that the duo will do a great job in redefining the DC universe and creating a more cohesive cinematic universe and is excited for the stories to unfold. She stated,
“I think we’re in incredible hands. I got excited about the slate because I know James Gunn just brings so much to comic book lore and he’s so well-versed. So yeah, I’m not in the conversations, of course. You know, I’m along for the ride. And when they say, ‘Grace, it’s time,’ I’m there… I’m really, really curious.”
But despite being inclined towards DC, Currey hasn’t brushed away the possibility of starring in a Marvel project in the future and shared that she doesn’t want to be part of the Marvel vs DC debate.
Grace Currey hasn’t brushed off the possibility of starring in a future Marvel movie
While speaking with The Direct, Grace Currey revealed that even before being part of the DC family, she was once considered to star in an X-Men movie for the role of Jean Gray, which was eventually scrapped. And even though she clarified that she is more inclined towards the DC brand, she refused to take sides in the DC vs Marvel debate and teased that she might be open to playing a suitable Marvel character in the future. She stated,
“I have to be honest, especially the comics, I am such a DC person. I really know DC moreso. And of course, Marvel is so… they bring out characters a lot of the times that people aren’t as familiar with, of course, with how we got Iron Man and everyone over there. But I don’t know…”
Even though both Grace Currey and Zachary Levi have expressed their love for the DC brand and are keen on playing their respective characters in the future. But the performance of the upcoming Shazam sequel will likely play a big factor in determining their future in the new DCU.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods will hit theatres on 17 March 2023.
