"I'm sorry I didn't respect your wishes": Jada Pinkett Smith's Mother Felt Guilty For Forcing Her To Marry Will Smith Despite Her Hesitation

While Jada Pinkett Smith and her husband Will Smith seem to be going strong for nearly 25 years with their marriage, their wedding back in ‘97 isn’t one that she remembers fondly. Their careers had just taken off and both artists crossed paths multiple times before their marriage.

Will Smith originally had plans to date Pinkett Smith as he visited the sets of her show – A Different World and was inspired by her personality and acting. But fate had different plans for them. Smith met his first wife Sheree Zampino in ‘92 while he actually went to meet with Pinkett Smith. They got married, but separated three years later after having a son, Trey Smith.

After that, Pinkett Smith recalls that Will approached her and asked if she was seeing anyone, to which she said “no.” They started dating right after when he said, “Alright, you’re seeing me now.”

Jada Pinkett Smith Wasn’t Ready To Marry Will Smith

While Will Smith was in a marriage with Zampino, he felt that he was not with someone he had hoped for. After divorcing her in ‘95, he started his relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith. Being in a platonic relationship for nearly two years, the couple got married in ‘97. But she wasn’t exactly ready for marriage at the time.

While she enjoyed her time with Smith, her mother pushed her into marrying him. The mother-daughter duo back in 2018 during a homegrown podcast – The Red Table Talk, shared how it all happened.

Pinkett Smith recalls –

“I was so upset that I had to have a wedding. I was so pissed,” adding that she “went crying down the freakin’ aisle getting married.”

As the Smith couple had an extremely grounded and real relationship, her mother thought that it was time they exchanged vows and make it public.

Norris confessed –

“It was a mess, her wedding. Jada was sick, she was very unpleasant. I’m sorry I didn’t respect your wishes.”

Did Pinkett Smith Cheat On Her Husband?

25 years of marriage, the couple has faced some lows in their “almost” perfect relationship. We already know that before her marriage to Will Smith, she was 3 months pregnant with their son Jaden, which tells how strong their commitment to each other has been.

But, every relationship has its own set of issues. Back in 2015, the couple was rumored to have been in an “open marriage” and that was later confirmed by Jada Pinkett Smith herself that she was in an actual relationship with singer August Alsina, while being married.

According to her, their married life and connection go deeper, and that’s how the couple reunited after her relationship with Alsina ended. “It’s more of a life partnership,” she said while talking about how the couple does not celebrate anniversaries anymore.
