Defying everyone’s expectations time and time again, Greta Gerwig has once again proved how distinctive and special her storytelling is with the spectacular success of Barbie. Following the recent release of her globally critically acclaimed movieGreta Gerwig is now all set to write-direct at least two new movies for Peter Dinklage‘s The Chronicles of Narnia franchise for Netflix.

Although fans are excited about whatever unique touch the director will give to the movies, Gerwig claims she is ‘properly scared’ of the big project. As revealed by the Little Women filmmaker in a recent interview, the idea of taking on such a classic franchise makes the 39-year-old nervous. Giving her updates on the project, she said,

“I haven’t even really started wrapping my arms around it. But I’m properly scared of it, which feels like a good place to start. I think when I’m scared, it’s always a good sign. Maybe when I stop being scared, it’ll be like, ‘Okay. Maybe I shouldn’t do that one.’ No, I’m terrified of it. It’s extraordinary. And so we’ll see, I don’t know.”

While the director is ‘terrified’ of giving her ideas for The Chronicles of Narnia films, judging from the immense success of Barbie, Greta Gerwig‘s version of the $1.5B franchise’s movies will be entirely different from everyone’s expectations – definitely in a good way.

From Greta Gerwig’s explanation of her special version of The Chronicles of Narnia, it is evident that her plans for the movie will be in the early stages. Talking about how she’s looking forward to having a ‘lengthy filmography’, the Barbie director said,

“I hope to make all different kinds of movies in the course of the time I get to make movies, which – it’s a long time, but it’s also limited. I want to do big things and small things and everywhere in between, and having another big canvas is exciting and also daunting.”

But in the same way that Greta Gerwig has transformed Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women into a fabulous real-life tale and Barbieland into a unique, magical place, fans trust she will also succeed in making Narnia an incredibly recognizable masterpiece.
