The celebrity scandal that destroyed the former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein might have caused some serious trouble for the actor-director Ben Affleck as well. In 2017, The New York Times published a report detailing the se*ual misconduct of the former producer. He was accused of harassing over a dozen actresses and female employees. In a follow-up report, three more women accused Weinstein of r*pe.
People, along with the Hollywood celebrities who have worked with the producer in the past, came forward to condemn him. One of these stars also included the Batman actor, who came forward to share his anger and sadness over the whole issue. However, the move backfired as people started pointing out the alleged misconduct committed by him.
Ben Affleck Reacted to Harvey Weinstein Allegations
Ben Affleck has been very closely associated with Harvey Weinstein as he has worked with him on multiple films, including the film that landed him his first Oscar, Good Will Hunting. He shared his reaction to the news via a tweet, in which he stated that he was “saddened and angry” that a man he worked with used his position and power to “harass and manipulate” women.
“This is completely unacceptable, and I find myself asking what I can do to make sure this doesn’t happen to others,” The Town star further mentioned in his tweet. He also talked about protecting women and supporting the ones who come forward with the accusations.
The Gone Girl actor said that people with such behavior need to be condemned, and there should be more women in positions of power. Just hours after Affleck released a statement regarding Harvey Weinstein’s misconduct, the actor himself was facing some similar accusations.
Ben Affleck Faced S*xual Misconduct Allegations
Actress Hilarie Burton, who was an MTV host in the early 2000s, accused Affleck of having groped her. She replied to a tweet that mentioned the incident and said, “Everyone forgot, though.” Burton replied to the comment, saying, “I didn’t forget.”
She also tweeted that she was just a kid, and the incident was cut off from the final segment of the show. However, she explained everything as she expressed that she was shocked and questioned his behavior. According to the One Tree Hill actress, Affleck said, “Some girls like good tweakage here and there.”
Burton’s allegations were followed by makeup artist Anna Marie Tendler’s claims that he also “grabbed” her as* at a Golden Globes party in 2014. Considering he has worked with Weinstein for years, the Dawn of Justice star was also accused of not condemning his behavior sooner.
Not just the producer, he was also very close to other accused under the #Metoo movement. His brother Casey Affleck also faced similar accusations. While he was quick to condemn Weinstein, he did not say anything about his brother’s alleged s*xual harassment allegations.
Ben Affleck Apologises For His Behavior
After Hilarie Burton accused the Hollywood actor of harassing her, he shared a tweet apologizing for his behavior. He said in his tweet, “I acted inappropriately toward Ms. Burton, and I sincerely apologize.” The Oscar winner also reflected on his actions during an interview. Affleck said that he is looking at his own behavior as well as wants to be part of the solution.
“I’m looking at my own behavior and addressing that and making sure I’m part of the solution,” he said. The Accountant star stated that he is taking responsibility and monitoring himself so that he can be the best version of himself.
Talking about Harvey Weinstein, Ben Affleck said that he had not worked with him for 15 years and called him “underhanded and duplicitous.” He said that he knew he was “sleazy” but did not have an idea about the extent of his crimes.
