Cillian Murphy is Enthused To Bring The World War 2 Story To The Big Screen
During an insightful interview with Rolling Stone, Cillian Murphy, best known for playing Tommy Shelby in Peaky Blinders, shared details on Christopher Nolan‘s script of their upcoming film, Oppenheimer, which narrates the story of the “father of the atomic bomb”, and is based on the 2005 book American Prometheus.
Murphy said about his longtime collaborator:
“I think it’s the best script I ever read. I wanted it to be solely from Oppenheimer’s perspective. And I think the film is sensational.
As a person who loves films — I’m not saying it ’cos I’m in the fucking thing, I hate looking at myself — but as a lover of film, as a cinephile, I’m a Chris Nolan fan.”
The official trailer of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer film arrived last year, boasting an ensemble cast and stunning cinematography. The movie will take viewers through the process of the Manhattan Project, which changed the world forever.
The Story Of A Brilliant Mind Who Saw Himself Becoming Destroyer Of The World
During the detonation of the atomic bomb at the Trinity Test, Oppenheimer said, “Now I become Death, the destroyer of worlds,” as the scientist witnessed his historic creation, which led to massive destruction. Cillian Murphy also shared insights on how he would be living his dream of portraying one of the extraordinary strategic brains with his role of J. Robert Oppenheimer.
On this, he shared that “portraying such an elaborately brilliant mind had its challenges.” Even though he admitted to lacking intellectual capability, Murphy added that he enjoyed being around those “insanely intelligent men and women and going for dinner to talk about normal shit.” This helped him prepare for a challenging role, which may pave his way for the Oscars.
Nolan has assembled the most star-studded cast to date for this biopic, which includes A-listers like Emily Blunt as a biologist, Katherine Oppenheimer, Robert Downey Jr. as Lewis Strauss, Matt Damon, Rami Malek, and Florence Pugh plays psychiatrist Jean Tatloc. Josh Harnett is starring as Nobel Prize-winning nuclear physicist, Ernest Lawrence.
Oppenheimer hits theatres on July 21, 2023.
