Back in 2020, Winona Ryder’s accusations of Mel Gibson making anti-Semitic remarks resurfaced. The actress alleged that Gibson referred to her as an “oven dodger,” making a derogatory reference to her Jewish heritage. However, Gibson’s representative vehemently denied Ryder’s claims, stating that they are “100% untrue.” Over the years, the Braveheart actor has been accused of several anti-Semitic comments on different occasions, with Ryder’s accusations making it to the headlines once again in 2020. And this threatened Gibson’s $425 million worth career.
Ryder reiterated her allegations during her interview with The Sunday Times, standing by her previous account and asserting that she and a late friend were subjected to Gibson’s hateful words. In fact, she described the alleged incident as a painful and vivid memory.
Mel Gibson opened up on how he has realized he is not in control of anything
Following his battle with COVID-19 which required hospitalization, Mel Gibson was involved in multiple projects, including his film Last Looks. Following this, he entered into a conversation with Extra’s Billy Bush. During the conversation, Gibson discussed his health, personal philosophy, and his roles in Father Stu and Last Looks.
Moreover, he reflected on his busy work life and expressed his affinity for a more relaxed attitude, stating, “I’m not raising a sweat. I figured out how to do it and relax.” He emphasized that life is too short to panic about anything and mentioned that he’s doing well after his encounter with COVID-19, even joking about doing one-arm push-ups.
When asked about his greatest life lesson, Gibson emphasized introspection and the search for meaning in one’s existence. He said that he believes in self-reflection and exploring the purpose of life as an important pursuit, even if it may not yield definitive answers. However, when Bush further inquired about Gibson’s daily practices for personal benefit, the actor replied,
“Man, I get up every day and I realize I am not in control of this whole thing. And no matter what happens, I just ask for the grace to be able to deal with it you know. And to deal with it well. And to accept it. That’s the other thing. It’s being able to accept stuff.”
As per his comments, it’s clear that Mel Gibson’s positive outlook and philosophical approach to life continue to shape his career and personal journey as he tackles new projects and accusations.
Mel Gibson’s representative accused Winona Ryder of lying
Winona Ryder initially made these accusations in a 2010 interview with GQ magazine. According to her, the incident took place at a crowded party where Gibson made derogatory comments about her friend’s sexual orientation and then made offensive remarks about Jews.
Responding to Ryder’s renewed allegations, Gibson’s representative accused her of lying about both the comments and an alleged apology. They claimed that Gibson had reached out to Ryder many years ago to address the issue, but she refused to engage in a discussion about it.
In her statement, Ryder offered more details, specifying that the encounter occurred around 1996. While she expressed belief in redemption and forgiveness, she made it clear that she was not one of Gibson’s demons and emphasized the importance of taking responsibility for one’s actions.
Ryder, whose father is Jewish, clarified in The Sunday Times interview that she identifies as Jewish despite not being religious. This incident is not the first time Gibson has been accused of using offensive language related to the Holocaust. In 2012, screenwriter Joe Eszterhas accused Gibson of using similar terms during their collaboration on a film project. Gibson, known for his widely reported anti-Semitic comments during a 2006 drink-driving arrest, dismissed Eszterhas’s claims as false at the time.
