After making his way to the film industry in the 1980s, Josh Brolin continued to push boundaries and made a name for himself. The actor has constantly captivated the audience and is also known to portray the Marvel villain Thanos in the MCU. Although he had been a part of one of the most popular franchises at the time, he does not wish to be associated with the other franchises that have also gained worldwide recognition, especially the ones established by Oscar-winning director James Cameron.
The Goonies actor once shared that he refused to star in the Terminator film series and James Cameron’s sci-fi franchise, Avatar, as it didn’t feel right to him.
Josh Brolin Rejected James Cameron’s Avatar
The sequel to the highest-grossing film, Avatar, was released last year and soon joined its predecessor as the third highest-grossing film of all time. Considering the 2009 sci-fi movie’s success at the box office, it would be hard to assume that any actor would reject the offer to star in the film series.
However, Josh Brolin did not seem too interested in the project when James Cameron approached him with the offer. During an interview with Esquire, he shared that he received an offer to star in Cameron’s sequel to the 2009 hit film.
However, he was not interested in the offer and rejected the opportunity to star in the Avatar sequel. “If I don’t want to do Avatar. I’m not going to do Avatar,” he said. The Sicario actor also admitted that his decision led to some tension between him and the Avatar director.
“James Cameron’s f*cking calling me this name and that name. Whatever.” And this is not the only film Brolin rejected. Before Avatar, he rejected another movie that was closely associated with the Titanic director.
Josh Brolin Turned Down Terminator Salvation
James Cameron established the Terminator franchise with the 1984 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. However, he left the franchise after making two films. Since then, multiple directors have shared their vision with the film series, which includes Jonathan Mostow, McG, Alan Taylor, and Tim Miller.
McG directed the fourth installment in the series, and Josh Brolin was reportedly in talks to join the cast as Marcus Wright. However, he rejected this offer as well, and the role eventually went to the Avatar star Sam Worthington. During an interview, he shared that he read the script, which was “really dark and cool and interesting.”
