If there is a role that an actor was born to play, it is Ryan Reynolds’ depiction of Deadpool. The actor starred as the character in Deadpool and its sequel Deadpool 2. He will also be appearing in Deadpool 3, where he will join hands with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and make his debut in the MCU.

Reynolds has also proved that he is not really acting as Deadpool with his off-screen antics. The actor has an insane level of dedication to the role and was closely involved in the scripting of the films as well. He also stole his Deadpool suit, much to the annoyance of the producers.

Actor Ryan Reynolds had been campaigning to play the ‘merc with a mouth’ for many years after the character said that he resembled Reynolds the most in the comics. He worked on a script with his Blade Trinity director David S. Goyer. However, 20th Century Fox, which held the rights to the character, went ahead with the X-Men franchise instead.

Ryan Reynolds played an iteration of the character, Wade Wilson, in the Hugh Jackman starrer X-Men Origins: Wolverine. However, the character deviated from the comics, with one of the most controversial changes being Wilson’s mouth being sewn shut. Despite being widely panned by comic book fans, it was a commercial success.

Reynolds finally got a chance to make the right Deadpool and started to work with director Tim Miller. While the disastrous Green Lantern became a problem, Reynolds convinced Fox to still go ahead with an R-rated Deadpool film. The test footage that Reynolds and Miller produced was leaked online and went viral, convincing Fox Studios to greenlight the project.

Deadpool was made at a budget of $58 million, which was extremely low for a superhero film. However, the film was a huge success, earning over $782 million worldwide. The film was also widely acclaimed by critics and fans alike and was considered to be one of the most accurate portrayals of a comic book character.

Reynolds was lauded for his authentic portrayal and commitment to the role. He also added more to his image as the perfect Deadpool through his off-screen antics. He once revealed that he had stolen the Deadpool suit after the first film. He said in an interview,

“I loved wearing it and I have run away with one. I’ll probably get into trouble for saying that, but I’ve waited 10 years to do this movie. So, I’m leaving with a f–king suit.”

After the ordeal the actor has gone through to make sure the film gets made, it is only fitting for him to have the suit he paid for. The actor also reportedly stole his ring from Green Lantern. Reynolds reportedly paid out of his own pocket to include a reference that was important to the Deadpool character. The actor also managed to convince Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman to come out of retirement and reprise his role as Logan for one last time. These instances only make the fans more convinced that Ryan Reynolds is perfect for the role of Wade Wilson.
