This movie will be a fresh beginning in the DCU as a new Superman will be introduced who will replace Henry Cavill as he had been let go by the franchise. Though there has been no official information regarding the candidates who will likely take on the role, it might be announced soon given that the movie is officially in the pre-production phase.
Henry Cavill’s Exit from The DC Franchise!
Last year, Cavill officially announced his departure from the successful franchise that helped him in getting global stardom as Superman. On his Instagram, the actor wrote,
“I will, after all, not be returning as Superman. After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life.”
He concluded his message by writing,
“My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will. It’s been a fun ride with you all, onwards and upwards.”
After debuting in Man of Steel, he continued his arc with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League. While fans wanted to see more of his arc, the fact that the change happened in the franchise also changed the plans to take a different approach for this character.
Gunn himself confirmed that DC would be moving forward with a movie focusing on a younger version of the hero which clarified that the British actor would not return.
Superman: Legacy is scheduled to be released on July 11, 2025.
