However, sometimes the best of people can think lowly of themselves as well. As revealed by the Titanic actress herself, she once thought she was ‘not good enough’ when she first met the late Harry Potter star, Alan Rickman in person.

Kate Winslet is globally acclaimed for her female protagonist role in Titanic. However, when she met the late Alan Rickman on the sets of Sense and Sensibility in the year 1995, she wasn’t much famous then as this movie was only the second project of her brilliant career in the movie industry. Starstruck about starring with the late Harry Potter actor, who had already gained much fame for his ingenious acting skills, Winslet revealed her reaction when she was cast for the movie, saying,

“So much of the time I find myself thinking ‘I haven’t got a clue and what the hell am I doing here’. On Sense and Sensibility, every day I kept thinking ‘This is so ridiculous, I’m working with Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, [and] Imogen Stubbs’. They saw me as one of them, on their level. But I felt like an absolute newcomer, which I was, and feel that I still am genuinely.”

While being overwhelmed and feeling fortunate on the one hand about having so many experienced actors around her to guide her, the Titanic actress, on the other hand, was worried that she might’ve made an unfavorable impression on the late Alan Rickman.

“Alan is such a gentleman but when I first met him I was absolutely terrified. I was 19 and he’s got that voice. I remember thinking, ‘I’m going to die, he thinks I’m rubbish, why am I here?”’

However, Winslet’s worries all disappeared into thin air as the late Harry Potter actor revealed how amused he was by her.

While the Titanic actress was worried about the impression she made on the late Alan Rickman, the Harry Potter actor, on the other hand, was rather amused by Kate Winslet as he got to know her on the sets of Sense and Sensibility.

As narrated by the late actor, Kate Winslet used to carry a journal along with her throughout the time she was filming. In the journal were several interesting entries about the actress’s co-stars, mostly about director Ang Lee. The late Alan Rickman said,

“Kate wrote a book about the film and there are some quotes in there about Ang’s occasionally [loose] grasp of English. We’d get notes that left you kind of staring. [About Lee’s criticism] Kate was only 19 at the time and he said, ‘Kate, never mind, you’ll get better.'”

However, all this criticism did contribute to making the actors perform to the best of their ability, leading to the movie getting critical global acclamation as well.
