Mark Wahlberg has been known for his comedic movies that often went above and beyond what people deem as comedy. Being an iconic actor, Wahlberg has often found himself on the wrong side of things in Hollywood with his controversies.
Having done work in Hollywood in movies like All The Money in the World alongside Michelle Williams, the actor has been involved in gender disparity for the 2017 movie. As per the reports, Wahlberg was so stressed due to the additional fee that he decided to donate all of the $1.5 million in Michelle Williams’ name to a legal defense fund.
When Mark Wahlberg Did Not Want The Extra Money
With the title of the film being All The Money in the World (ironically), it seems that Wahlberg had found himself in a terrible situation. Kevin Spacey had a part in the movie but was removed due to the s-xual harassment allegations against him and Christopher Plummer was cast instead.
The recasting led to reshoots of the movie and Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams had to be a part of the reshoot. After the movie finished shooting, it was revealed that the Ted actor received an additional $1.5 million for the reshoots. Although the number isn’t that high, his co-star and notable actress Michelle Williams was barely paid around $1000! Calling upon the gender disparity in pay, Wahlberg had enough of it.
In his Instagram post, the actor revealed that he was well aware of the conversations that people were having and he was against the unfair pay. Stating his good intentions, the Uncharted actor declared that he would be donating 100% of the $1.5 million received in Michelle Williams’ name.
“Over the last few days my reshoot fee for All the Money in the World has become an important topic of conversation. I 100% support the fight for fair pay and I’m donating the $1.5 million to the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund in Michelle Williams’ name.”
In return, his co-star Michelle Williams stated that she wasn’t content with the events that had transpired since they shouldn’t have occurred in the first place. Talking about her side of the tale, Williams gave an inspiring speech about a day she hopes to see where no such pay gap exists.
Michelle Williams Wants To See A Day Without Pay Gap
With the events that transpired, Mark Wahlberg ended up donating the extra $1.5 million under Michelle Williams’ name to Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund. The Brokeback Mountain actress, however, was not at all happy with what happened.
“It’s the kind of story I would normally resist: the morality tale with a happy ending, or rather a happy beginning because that’s really why I’m here. There won’t be satisfaction for me until I can exhaust my efforts ensuring that all women experience the elevation of their self-worth and its connection to the elevation of their market worth.”
With reshoots and gender disparity, All the Money in the World received a rating of 6.8/10 on IMADB and 79% on Rotten Tomatoes. The 2017 movie is available to stream on DirectTV.
