In an interview, the John Wick star shared that the development of Constantine 2 is under progress for quite some time. As per Keanu Reeves, this topic has become a regular conversation between him and WB, as the Knock Knock star continued to constantly plead for the sequel of his 2005 movie.

“I don’t know if it was unfinished business but it was a role that I loved. And I thought that Francis Lawrence, the director, did such amazing work. I loved playing that character, and I really enjoyed the film. I was like, [adopts Oliver Twist voice] ‘Can I please have some more?’ I kept asking almost every year. I’d be like, ‘Can I please?’ [and] they’d be like, ‘No, no’.”

The Lake House star also shared that he and his team started working on the upcoming sequel with all their might as soon as they received a positive reply from the studios. Reeves couldn’t hide his excitement to reprise his role of John Constantine.

“So it’s exciting. It’s almost like an open playground that we can hopefully cook something up and play in, and I guess get out of the playground and prepare a meal. But I’m looking forward to it, and hopefully, it can happen. You don’t know how these things go. But I’m definitely going to try my darndest to try and realize that dream.”

Francis Lawrence on Constantine 2 Uncertainties in James Gunn’s DCEU

Francis Lawrence, the director of 2005 Constantine, too shared his excitement for the upcoming DC movie. But at the same time subtly hinted at the difficulties and uncertainties that still surround the movie’s development under the direction of co-CEOs of DCEU James Gunn.

“We don’t have a script, but Keanu, me, and Akiva [Goldsman] who all worked on the first one together have all been trying over the years to get another one going. It’s been tricky because of the DC/Vertigo world and who owns the character and who has control over the characters, trying to get the right people to go forward. We’ve got that now and now we need the story. We’d all love to do it.”
