If there’s a well-known female action star in Hollywood, it’s undoubtedly Charlize Theron. Or at least, she’s one of the most recognized ones. After all, she has starred in action films like Atomic Blonde, The Old Guard, and of course, her most famous role of Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road.
The 2015 film grossed $365 million at the global box office and made her an action hero. It won’t be wrong to say that she’s as synonymous with the role of Furiosa as Keanu Reeves is with John Wick. So is there a chance of the two stars teaming up? Maybe. After all, Theron allegedly inspired John Wick.
Charlize Theron Is Excited To Team Up With Keanu Reeves
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Charlize Theron was asked if she would be interested in teaming up with Keanu Reeves. After all, a film with two beloved action stars would be loved by audiences. Theron, at least, is all in because of her love and admiration of Reeves. She said:
“Listen, as soon as I get the call, I’ll be there. They just have to tell me where, when and I’ll show up. Keanu is one of my most favorite people in the whole wide world; I absolutely love him. I respect him, I admire him and I am so grateful that I got to make two movies with him.”
They starred together in 2001’s Sweet November and 1997’s The Devil’s Advocate. Interestingly, both of them are going through a renaissance as action stars in the latter half of their careers. Theron acknowledged this too and even said that John Wick influenced Atomic Blonde a lot. The actress said:
“We both kind of find ourselves in this new stage of our career, and so much of Atomic Blonde was influenced by John Wick. So, if we can get those two characters to meet up in a timeline that makes sense, I’m all about it.”
But what if the inspiration didn’t just go one way and Theron’s character inspired John Wick too? That’s at least what a theory says.
Did Charlize Theron’s Character Inspire Keanu Reeves’ John Wick?
The Hollywood Reporter interviewer surprised Charlize Theron by mentioning that she had inspired Mr. John Wick himself. Then the interviewer laid out an eye-popping theory that even impressed the Monster actress. The interviewer wrote:
“In 2001’s Sweet November, your terminally ill character, Sara Deever, mailed a dog to Keanu’s character, and that was 13 years before John Wick’s terminally ill wife, Helen Wick, did the same thing in John Wick.”
Suffice it to say, Theron was blown away by the theory and said she was going to tell Keanu Reeves all about it. But will the two stars get to team up in an action film? Their fans can only hope to see that day.
John Wick is available on Peacock.
