Though the plotline of both the films differed from Top Gun, the thematic connection between these three movies depicted them to be a follow-up of Top Gun.
While Days of Thunder was declared a flop by the critics, Revenge was considered a cult. Even legendary filmmaker Quentin Tarantino agrees to it.
Quentin Tarantino Acknowledged Tony Scott’s Masterpiece
Tony Scott’s directorial film Revenge is often regarded as one of the best works of his career. The film is known for its dark theme and Scott’s keen attention to detail. Tarantino declared it to be Scott’s finest work, praising its uniqueness and thematic depth. In fact, Tarantino was so impressed by Scott’s direction that he personally supported and pushed for Scott to direct ‘True Romance.‘ During an interview, Tarantino recalled,
“I’m a huge fan of that movie. In fact, that was the reason I was supportive and really tried to make it happen that Tony directed True Romance. I was like, I want the man who did Revenge to do my movie.”
Scott did end up directing True Romance and it became a cult classic. Thus, it can be said that the movie Revenge opened the door of opportunity for Scott.

Although the film received mixed reviews, eventually it became a cult classic.
