Few actors possess the gravitas that Lance Reddick did when portraying a role. His versatility and affinity for playing significant secondary roles in action movies come to mind as one receives news of the actor’s death in Los Angeles at 60. Reddick recently reprised his role as Charon, the concierge at the Continental Hotel in New York, in the latest installment in the John Wick franchise, John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023).
The world came together to speak about Reddick’s grace and elegance, both on and off the screen. Reddick is known for having played major roles in TV shows The Wire (2002-2008), Fringe (2008-2013), and Bosch (2014-2020). He also starred in several action movies such as Angel Has Fallen (2019) and White House Down (2013).
Lance Reddick grew close to Keanu Reeves on John Wick set
One is reminded of one of Lance Reddick‘s recent conversations with Vulture, where he spoke about the John Wick franchise, and working with Keanu Reeves, who plays the lead role of assassin John Wick. Reddick had revealed that Reeves and he had grown close together over the course of the films.
“We’ve gotten to know each other a little better… during John Wick: Chapter Four, my first day of filming happened to be Keanu’s birthday. But he wasn’t in the scene. He came to the set anyway at nine o’clock at night with his girlfriend.” said Reddick. “And she is … can I say a bad word?…His girlfriend is cool as fuck. And she told me that she asked Keanu what he wanted to do for his birthday and he said, ‘I want to go see Lance.'”
Reddick said that he was moved to tears even thinking of Reeves’ gesture back then.
Reddick went on to talk about how Reeves had thanked him for portraying the role of Charon throughout the duration of the franchise alongside his titular character. Reddick added,
“He’d never done this before but he wrote me a note thanking me for what I brought to the character in these movies. And he wanted to give the note to me. I’ll never forget it. I’m going to cry now.”
Fans took to Twitter to praise Reddick for being the down-to-earth person he was, with several asserting that both Reeves and Reddick were some of the best people in the industry.

Lance Reddick did not stop at just acting in TV shows or movies. He also lent his voice and likeness to several characters in video game franchises like Horizon and Destiny, and he lives on with his fans and co-stars in his elegant portrayals of characters on-screen. His death, caused presumably by natural causes early on the morning of Friday, 17th March 2023, came as a shock to many, and the Internet was quick to pay its tributes to the great actor.
Reddick was praised for having great chemistry with Reeves, and being a truly great person apart from being good actor. Fans acknowledged Reddick made his character more than what it was, simply by the grace of his acting skills.
The world lost a great actor, but more importantly, as is evident, it lost a good man too. Lance Reddick will be missed sorely by fans worldwide.
