Al Pacino Won AFI Life Achievement Award And Got Tributed
Within 5 years of the release of The Godfather, Al Pacino released three other movies, Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico, and The Godfather Part II, all of which were massively successful. Outside of this, the actor has also been nominated for an academy award on 9 different occasions and won once when he won Best Actor for his work in Scent Of A Woman. Robin Williams Roasts Al Pacino At His Tribute Event
Robin Williams was in charge of kicking off the 35th AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to Al Pacino with a speech to honor Al Pacino, however, his words were more like a light-hearted roast that left the audience laughing quite hard. William’s words came from a place of respect and years of friendship with Pacino and during this memorable and iconic speech, the Good Will Hunting actor joked about the Godfather actor looking like Robert De Niro, best known for his work in Raging Bull, if Niro had been put in a washing machine dryer.
“(Al Pacino has had) so many great films, and so many great performances. The Acadamy award for Godfather II, the Acadamy award for Raging Bull, wait a minute, I am under rehab but that’s wrong. That’s Robert De Niro but if you put Robert De Niro in a dryer, you get Al Pacino.” he went on to finish his speech with, “congratulations on winning the AFI Life Achievement Award, let’s all raise our glasses to Alfredo James Pacino or as many of us know you, Al fu*cking Pacino.”
Williams also went on to take the audience through a journey of some of the most iconic highlights of Pacino’s career, from lines his characters have said to Williams, to some of Pacino’s most memorable one-liners, showcasing just how much the actor deserved the award he was receiving.
