The latest Tom Holland starrer, Apple TV+ series, The Crowded Room, started off rough with awful ratings from the critics. Even though the fans’ unwavering support overshadowed the negative reviews in the beginning, it’s becoming harder and harder to ignore the ratings as they have grown significantly over time. The news of Holland taking a break from acting also did not help the situation. But Lo and Behold, the actor deemed the two-hour-long interview with The Hollywood Reporter the perfect place to clear the air out, and state where he is currently following the release of the Apple show, he executive produced and starred in.
The star continued to share a Christian Bale quote that acts as his motivator during tough times and admitted that has been helping to cope with the underwhelming reviews the show has been getting.
Tom Holland on the criticism his new show has been receiving
Tom Holland’s recent Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room has been met with less than favorable reviews with The Guardian saying it “drags on and on”, leading to reports and speculations that the actor was taking some time off from acting as a result of the public’s unfavorable response. Despite fans giving The Crowded Room a 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes, critics have only awarded it a mere 26%.
The actor donned a new challenge in this new project by playing a character whose s-xual preference differed from his own and thus was nervous if his performance would translate the authenticity well enough. Thus, while speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, he claimed that negative reviews did not punch him down all while stating his personal philosophy to live life. He said,
“I try not to worry myself about what other people think,”
He then continued to share a Christian Bale quote that helps him adjust to the ebb and flow of the ever-changing film industry. Holland stated,
“There’s a Christian Bale quote I saw once, which really changed my life. He said, ‘If you have a problem with me, text me. And if you don’t have my number, you don’t know me well enough to have a problem with me.’ “
Thus making it clear he will stop at nothing. And sent a clear message to the people spreading unnecessary hate towards the product of his hard work and zeal over several years.
Is Tom Holland going on a hiatus following the poor reviews?
The Spider-Man: No Way Home actor, Tom Holland recently broke the news of his temporary retirement from acting following The Crowded Room. Thus many speculated the actor will be taking a break following the negative reviews his show has been receiving due to the alignment of the two pieces of information. But in an interview with Live With Kelly and Mark, the actor cleared up the supposed misunderstanding. Turns out, he is already 8 months into his year-long vacation from acting, which started immediately post-wrap-up. Thus, although the rumors were partially true, the reviews had nothing to do with Holland momentarily leaving the spotlight. He said,
“It’s so funny. Obviously, ‘The Crowded Room’ came out. We didn’t have very favorable reviews–So the press story was that I have taken this year off because of the reviews. But I’m eight months into my year off. I’ve been chilling at home in London, going to Grand Prixes, playing golf…”
Playing the boy interrogated for his part in a 1979 shooting has significantly taken a toll on the actor’s mental health and thus, compelled him to take a break for the sake of his well-being. Besides, that, it is not the cast people have a problem with but the lackluster execution and time duration of the series have been the issue with many. Holland as usual stands out with his exceptional performance and delivery in the series, which led many to say that the show is doing a “disservice” to such profound performers in the series.
