At one side, the news about Henry Cavill starring in Guy Ritchie’s World War II thriller, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, broke the Internet. Whereas on the other side, the British actor announced his leave from the Netflix show, The Witcher, claiming that the fourth season of the series would be continuing without him.
While this surprising news has left fans with a flurry of confusing reactions, Stephen Ford, the actor who plays the titular role in Kamden Rider: Dragon Knight, tweeted on the subject claiming that the reason why Henry Cavill left the show was majorly because the project was an unsatisfactory and mediocre one which had stopped intriguing the star.
Henry Cavill announces his leave from The Witcher
After playing the grim and mighty protagonist of Geralt of Rivia for three whole seasons, Henry Cavill has now said his goodbyes to The Witcher and won’t be coming back for the fourth season.
As the Enola Holmes star announced his departure from the fantasy/adventure series via an emotional Instagram post, Cavill also mentioned that The Hunger Games actor, Liam Hemsworth will be replacing his position in the show from season 4 onwards.
“Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find,” Cavill remarked as he talked about the Australian actor taking up “the mantle of the White Wolf” in lieu of him.
This news comes just a week after the Immortals actor announced his comeback to the DCEU as Clark Kent, aka, Superman. So, naturally many people are inclined to believe that Cavill is exiting The Witcher because he has his hands full with a Man of Steel 2 project. However, some fans seem to be thinking that the actor left the show not to play Superman, but because he was unhappy with the writers of The Witcher apparently ruining the show.
Fans claim Henry Cavill left The Witcher due to inept writers
The Witcher‘s franchise exists not only through the Netflix show, but also as short stories that were later transformed into full-fledged books and even in the form of a highly successful series of video games, which existed long before the series made its way through the popular streaming service.
Cavill is as nerdy as they come, which he himself as admitted, and is someone who is loyal to the source material. But many writers working on the show refused to refer to the source material and openly dismissed it.
What’s more, is that Beau DeMayo, one of the screenwriters of the series pointed out how many other writers on the team “actively disliked the books and games” and even made derisive comments about it. And fans believe that due to this very reason of the writers not committing fully to the project, Cavill decided to call it quits.
There are also many who are still sticking with the reason that Cavill left the show because of reprising his role as Superman on the big screens, but people who seem to have watched The Witcher are rather certain that working on other projects isn’t the only reason why The Tudors star is leaving the fantasy series.
The shocking news about Cavill’s departure from the show comes just months before the release of the four-part prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin which will be airing on December 25 this year.
The Witcher season 3 is set to release in the summer of 2023.
