“If the Academy gave an Oscar for faking org–ms”: Marilyn Monroe Savagely Dissed Hollywood For Turning Her Into a S-x Symbol in the 1950s

Marilyn Monroe – the name conjures up the famous subway grate scene with her skirt flying up. Glamour, rosy red lips, and a seductive slant of her eyes that beckons one to join her in bed. That’s the iconic Monroe image. Plenty of films and shows have focused only on the s*x-bomb image of her, as well as her affairs with several men.

Even the Ana de Armas Blonde film came under severe criticism for dehumanizing her and continuing to exploit her image, even after her death. However, anecdotally, the real Marilyn Monroe, or Norma Jean Baker, was a witty and complex person. She was well aware of her siren image and how to use it. But she was also critical of the industry that tried to keep her trapped in it.

The eyebrow-raising line will make anyone gasp. But it just proves cheekily what a good actor Monroe was and also how she was endlessly witty. Any fan of the late actress will know that she wanted the exact opposite of this.

There’s a very famous quote attributed to Marilyn Monroe that she allegedly told an interviewer at the end of her life. She said, “Please don’t make me into a joke.” Yet, in many ways, she has been turned into just that. Hollywood, especially Blonde, has largely portrayed her as a trainwreck. All that’s left of her legacy is a series of love affairs, addiction, tussle with fame, and nothing more when she was much bigger than this.

She hated being typecast as the dumb blonde or the s*x siren. Monroe desperately wanted to prove that she had more to offer to the industry than just her s*x appeal. The Niagara actress even protested when Fox sent her demeaning roles and refused to increase her salary. They did this even though she was the biggest star of the studio.

So she refused to stick to her contract and founded a production studio, becoming the second woman ever to do that. This rattled Fox’s bones, and they gave her the creative control and higher salary she wanted. But not many of her biopics are interested in showing this side of her. Will this change in the future? Maybe. But not many are holding their breath.
