In a press conference, Spielberg revealed that he has been learning a lot from young filmmakers and directors over the past few years, and is especially awestruck by the Oscar-Winning duo, The Daniels.
Steven Spielberg Is Awestruck By The Daniels
Steven Spielberg is the top director in Hollywood for a variety of reasons. From CGI-laced films to heartwarming tales, Spielberg has the unique ability to make gold out of any genre he tackles. Not only have his films influenced and profoundly impacted his very diverse audience, but his unique storytelling has also left us all with a deep emotional connection that resonates with each of us on a personal level.
While filmmakers across the world remain inspired by his immense and innovative storytelling, the Jurassic Park director revealed his recent inspirations and praised the Oscar-winning duo The Daniels, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, at Berlinale.
“I learn actually more from young filmmakers today than I do from some of the older filmmakers that made movies 80, 90, 60 years ago. Because some of the new filmmakers today are doing such audacious work. Um.. The Daniels, such amazing, genius work on Everything Everywhere All At Once.”
The illustrious director said while praising The Daniels. Such high praise coming from a director like Steven Spielberg certainly means a lot, especially when the due themselves mentioned that it was the ET director who inspired them.
Steven Spielberg Is Learning From Young Filmmakers
Among Steven Spielberg’s many films over the years, his most recent The Fabelmans, which is loosely inspired by his own life, is a deeply heartfelt tale, pulling the most vulnerable of our heartstrings. Fused with drama and a hint of his own life, the film left a larger-than-life impact on its many viewers. But how did the film come about to be and what are the inspirations behind all of his work, one wonders. In Berlinale, Spielberg revealed that he had a lot of learning experience from young filmmakers,
“I am learning from young filmmakers so much but one of the things I’m learning is you got to have a good script. I’ve always said if it ain’t on the page, it ain’t on the stage. And I really believe that.”
Spielberg, despite the master filmmaker he is, is not afraid to admit that he continues to learn and be inspired by young voices. And perhaps it is his unique ability to find inspiration and lessons from anywhere and everywhere that makes him a master of his craft.
