Following the writer’s strike in Hollywood started form 2nd May of this year many movies and TV shows have been severely affected. Many daily TV shows had to go dark due to the unavailability of the writers while the production of many shows and movies was announced to be halted.
Writers Guild of America’s (WGA) strike also affected some highly anticipated projects. Disney+ series Andor has ceased all activities following the strike while Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Mahershala Ali starrer vampire reboot Blade had to shut down pre-production. Further, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3 also faced a severe blow.
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 Update Amid WGA Strike
Earlier in February, MCU head Kevin Feige gave an update on Spider-Man 4 confirming that the story is already finished while the writers’ are “just putting pen to paper.” Also, at the premiere of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Marvel producer Amy Pascal confirmed that the fourth installment of the Tom Holland and Zendaya starrer film was in development.
However, like many other Hollywood projects, WGA also slowed down the development of the narrative of Spider-Man 4. While fans were anticipating an update after the devastating Deadpool 3 news affected by the strike Pascal consoled the fans with an update. She said that the work on the film has been stopped but the people in the studio are “being supporters” of the strike.
“Are we going to make another movie? Of course, we are. We’re in the process, but the writers strike, nobody is working during the strike. We’re all being supporters and whenever they get themselves together, we’ll get started.”
Well, that’s not all good news but something to hold on to for the fans. At least they are getting updates from the movie but they might have to wait more for the release as the writers’ strike is still ongoing.
More On Spider-Man 4
Holland starrer beloved titular wall-crawler is definitely coming back to MCU as confirmed by Marvel’s head Feige in February saying “All I will say is that we have the story.” He also confirmed big ideas to be incorporated into the movie as well, adding, “We have big ideas for that, and our writers are just putting pen to paper now.” Recently, when a fan asked about the future of Holland’s Spider-Man, Sony Pictures head, Tom Rothman jokingly said with a gentle laugh, “If I told you, I’d have to kill you.”
So far, the updates regarding the movie do not specify a release date. According to The Direct, a previous rumor stated that the studio is considering the Spider-Man 4 release on July 12, 2024, ahead of Harrison Ford’s MCU debut movie Thunderbolts which is slated 26 July 2024 release. Given the current scenario, the web-slinger has to wait for his romance with MJ and fight against supervillains. It is uncertain when the development of Spider-Man 4 resume but it is certain that the movie has to wait till the end of the writers’ strike.
As per speculations, the production of the movie could start around mid-2024 which will push the movie to at least two years. Based on these speculations, Spider-Man 4 could go beyond Marvel’s phase-5 as the wall-crawler is likely to feature in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty which is slated for a 2 May 2025 release. So, the Holland movie could hit the theatre after the next Avengers movie marking its entrance as one of the early movies to be in phase-6.
