Zack Snyder’s Justice League had a lot to offer and left the fans craving for more. This eagerness to see more of his ideas even led to various campaigns including the petition for Netflix to buy the Snyderverse. The movie became an instant hit and the story it presented quickly became one to be talked about for a very long time.
There was a lot going on in the plot that left the fans with an enormous amount of questions. These questions were left out in the open for the audience to ponder and a rising doubt stood out more than any other. Why exactly was the Joker even working with Batman during the events of Knightmare? Zack Snyder has been kind enough to provide an answer for the same.

Joker And Batman Had A Forced Truce According To Zack Snyder
The events of Zack Snyder’s Justice League gave a glimpse of the Knightmare sequence in the post-credit scene of the film. Superman had submitted to Darkseid after the death of Lois Lane and this post-apocalyptic version of the character was seen as the Dark Superman. Henry Cavill’s character became a real danger to the world instead of his iconic stance of hope and freedom.
“He has that information. And so he’s being carried… He has basically made a deal with Batman. ‘Don’t kill me, and I’ll show you. I’ll get you a tool to fight Superman.’ And so [Batman] is kind of stuck with him, in that way. If he kills him, or gets rid of him, then he’s screwed himself.”
The scene also shared a glimpse of Ray Fisher’s Cyborg, Ezra Miller’s Flash, Amber Heard’s Mera, Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke, and most importantly, Ben Affleck’s Batman. However, another member of their team happened to be none other than Jared Leto’s Joker. Zack Snyder explained that the truce between Bruce Wayne and the Joker became necessary after Superman’s allegiance shifted.
Zack Snyder Would Have Made Joker And Batman Work Together In Justice League 2
Zack Snyder talked about how Joker would have information about the Kryptonite as well as the pieces of Kryptonite the Justice League would need to defeat or even weaken Superman. So in order to ensure his own survival, Joker struck a deal with the Caped Crusader.
As long as Gotham’s clown prince of crime had this integral piece of information, Batman could not hurt him at all. Similarly, the villain was also very much aware of how badly the League needs the Kryptonite and so does the world. While he wants to watch the world burn, he wants to see it done by his own hands and not by another’s.
