“If he calls me, I am answering”: Marvel Star Chris Pratt Won’t Hesitate to Join James Gunn’s DCU After Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3

"If he calls me, I am answering": Marvel Star Chris Pratt Won't Hesitate to Join James Gunn's DCU After Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3

A rivalry between two big corporate houses always results in a win for the consumers as both go out of their way to appease them. Such is the case in the superhero movie industry as well, with industry giants MCU and DCU gunning for better content to one-up the other and keep fans engaged.

Both franchises have rapidly changing landscapes at the moment. The new co-CEOs of DC James Gunn and Peter Safran have promised a paradigm shift in the order of business in the misfiring DCU. While the MCU grapples with introducing new heroes taking on new villains in a post-Thanos era without the likes of Iron Man, Steve Rogers, Black Widow, and King T’Challa.

MCU star Chris Pratt is likely to join James Gunn-led DCU

James Gunn had promised DCU fans that several MCU actors, especially from his own Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, would jump ship and join the DCU. He had also hinted that Star-Lord himself, Peter Quill, played by Chris Pratt, would ‘probably’ join the DCU. What role Pratt would assume was not revealed, and still isn’t.

The MCU star himself talked about the rumors surrounding his move to the DCU in an interaction with CBR.

“As far as DC characters pan, I don’t know. I will let the fans tell me what they would want me to do. I don’t have anything official to announce. I haven’t spoken to James Gunn in any capacity to where he’s offered me anything like that. But listen, I love the guy. You know, he’s one of my best friends. I totally believe in him. And if he calls me, I am answering,” Pratt said.

Fans took to speculating about Pratt’s role in the DCU, with most saying he was likely to play the role of either Booster Gold or Guy Gardner.

Is Star-Lord’s character arc nearing its finish?

MCU star Chris Hemsworth, who plays the role of the Asgardian God of Thunder, Thor, in 2017 at the Australian Supernova Comic-Con said that MCU actors were legally not allowed to star in DCU roles. A lot of thought and work is put into recruiting MCU stars as they are ascertained to earn them the big bucks at the box office, and losing them to a top competitor is something Marvel would expectedly not do.

This, obviously, means that if Chris Pratt chooses to star in the DCU, his MCU time will come to an end. His character features in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 (2023) and Gunn teased a major death in the movie. It would not be surprising, then, to find that Star-Lord retires or dies in the movie, bringing an end to Pratt’s time with the MCU and leaving him open to pursue DCU roles.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 (2023) releases on 5th May 2023.
