“I’d probably quit”: Alan Ritchson Claimed He Would Leave Acting Because of Tom Cruise After Replacing Mission Impossible Star in $377 Franchise

Tom Cruise has a formidable on-screen presence that helped him conquer the action genre whether it be his Mission: Impossible series or other projects. However, what makes him stand out the most is his daring willpower that can do anything and everything. This trait often overshadows his actual height, which is another major factor that could make someone more dominant on camera.

In reality, the actor is of quite an average frame which was the major factor why his portrayal in the $377 Reacher franchise created quite an outcry. The franchise had a reboot with Alan Ritchson replacing the former in the titular role.

Fans of the Reacher franchise are well aware of the physical appearance of the titular character, Jack Reacher as he has a bulky 6’5 appearance. However, with Tom Cruise‘s version, it was lacking on that criteria which led to quite a criticism of his movie series despite it being commercially successful.

The franchise chose to alleviate fans’ worries by replacing him with Alan Ritchson as it entered into small screens. In an interview, series author, Lee Child mentioned,

“There was criticism from the book fans, because they had built up a very clear image of what Reacher should look like… I think that the size thing is important to certain parts of the narrative. Reacher has got to scare people and you can do that so much easier with one glance of this huge animal rather than a normal-sized actor.”

He continued,

“Alright, we can get a much bigger guy, so the book fans are going to be happy.'”

Meanwhile, he also mentioned that fans who didn’t read the books were highly satisfied with Cruise’s performance. From his statement, it is crystal clear that Ritchman’s casting for the series is a great choice since he has an impressive height frame of 6’2. As for the Amazon Prime series’s star, he is aware of the opportunity he landed in.

The Titans star is happy to be associated with the franchise and would love to get a ‘stamp of approval’ from his predecessor. He shared,

“If I was ever so lucky to get a stamp of approval from him, I could die happy. I’d probably quit while I was ahead. I think one season’s enough if I heard that from him. He’s a legend, I should be so lucky. I care deeply about what he and the rest of the people that have been a part of this for a long time think. I want to get this right.”

As to how he got in to follow Cruise’s footsteps, he told in another interview,

“The process was long and time-taking. It took almost a year. But enough people believe that I am the right choice to get the job and I am lucky that I did.”

The actor further revealed that he became the ‘biggest fan’ in one year while preparing for his role. He read all 24 books in eight months thus developing a strong interest in his role.
