The One Piece Live Action Adaptation by Netflix has taken the Internet by storm as it achieves mind-boggling success, which is unexpected for any live-action anime series. The credit for all the success of the series goes to the creators and the actors who worked hard to deliver the fans, a perfect masterpiece. The plot, the editing, and the storyline have only added to the success of the series, but the biggest ace for the creators was the unbelievable cast of the series who looked exactly like their characters and justified them.
The cast of season 1 included Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu Arata as Roronoa Zoro, Jacob Romero Gibbs as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji. Every actor has accepted their love for the series and gave it all for their characters, which resulted in the ultimate success of the series. The protagonist of the series Luffy played by Inaki Godoy was the most important cast of the series, and the other character that held an equivalent importance was that of the fans’ favorite Roronoa Zoro, played by Mackenyu. His appearance as Zoro was spot on and just like the original character, the fans loved him too.
Zoro was the Dream Role for Mackenyu
In an interview with Netflix, Mackenyu explained the impact of One Piece on his life, and how important was the role for him. He said:
“I was born in 1996, so ONE PIECE has been around my entire life… If you’re Japanese, it’s impossible not to know about it. Meeting Luffy is the biggest thing to ever happen to Zoro… though, of course, he’d never say that out loud. But for Zoro, I’d do anything.”
He also told Netflix, that he had his ear pierced for the role, which was truly painful, and also dyed his natural hair green.

The Biggest Challenge for Mackenyu as Zoro
Zoro as a character was extremely complex and needed a lot of work. From Sword fighting to keeping that arrogant egoistic look, he required a lot of focus. While talking to Gamesradar, Mackenyu explained how he prepared for the fight scenes and which scene was the most important for him. He said:
“I have experience using two swords simultaneously and have done live-action shows using swords in the past, but when it comes to three, that’s a different story. The training I did for One Piece was specific for Zoro and the skills needed to be him. My jaw had on-the-job training! There is an iconic fight scene between Zoro and Mihawk. I can’t give too much away, but it was cold and wet when we filmed that scene, so it was a tough one for me!”
The cast of One Piece had a lot of fun and focus while working for the series and fans expect the same amount of energy and passion from them for Season 2. All the episodes of the series are available for streaming on Netflix.
