Game Of Thrones Star Refused To Work With Cast For A Strange Reason In 'The Last Voyage of the Demeter', Enjoyed Watching Them Get Blisters While Drinking His Beer

Gripping, chilling, and immersive with a vintage and gothic feel, The Last Voyage of the Demeter is here with an authentic interpretation of how Bram Stoker imagined Dracula. Based upon the celebrated 1897 novel Dracula, it offers a fearful yet fresh perspective of the famous gothic literature on the big screen. As interesting as the story is, there are certainly interesting stories from the set as well.

Apart from building a huge replica of the famous cargo vessel from the 19th century, The Last Voyage of the Demeter stars the Game of Thrones star Liam Cunningham, who might be more than perfect for his role as the Captain. It was how he prepared for the role that makes an interesting and hilarious story.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter features Liam Cunningham as Captain Eliot of the famous cargo vessel Demeter. While he also played Ser Davos Deaworth in Game of Thrones for all seven seasons, the star hates boats and likes them best when nailed to a wall.

It was for this strange reason that Cunningham hated helping his The Last Voyage of the Demeter co-stars and thus took matters into his own hands when it was time to prepare for their roles. For preparation, all cast members were expected to work together as crews on sailboats, practicing sails, and tying knots.

“We went out on a sailboat with some people and the guys had to learn how to use the ropes and put sails up, and all that sort of thing. So they did ask me if I wanted to get involved and I went, ‘I’m the captain, I wouldn’t do that. But I’m so happy to watch!’ So I watched the rest of the cast getting welts and blisters on their hands while I laughed uproariously while drinking a beer on the back of the boat. It was fantastic! Best kind of research I’ve ever done.”

Instead of helping out his co-stars, in his true fashion of being a Captain, Cunningham enjoyed beers while his co-stars suffered from blisters from too much practice.

The Last Voyage Of The Demeter Is The Best Adaptation Of Dracula

Throughout the years, Bram Stoker’s Dracula has been adapted to various themes and perspectives. Among these many varied adaptations, especially in contemporary times, Liam Cunningham feels The Last Voyage of the Demeter is among the best and different from the rest in terms of adaptation and staying true to Stoker’s ideas of the creature.

“You have to remember the book and all of the Draculas it has produced over [more than a century. It’s a credit to the book that the reinterpretation lends itself creatively to story-making, and it’s fascinating that it’s taken so long to go back to the book and bring out the original ideas Bram Stoker had.”

While critics have been calling the film less ‘fearful’, fans have so far been loving it and agreeing with the Game of Thrones star in The Last Voyage of the Demeter being true to the original Dracula.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter is in theatres now.
