From living a few blocks apart in Cambridge, Massachusetts to sharing the same house in their struggling days as young actors, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have stuck together through thick and thin. And even in their 50s, the bond between the two remains robust, as the two recently joined forces for Air, directed by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star.
But despite their love and admiration for each other, Affleck did go to call out Damon for having bad hygiene during their days living in a joint apartment, claiming The Martian star didn’t wash up nor paid bills.
Ben Affleck recalls Matt Damon’s unhealthy way of living
Following their younger days in showbiz, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, alongside his brother Casey Affleck, shifted to a shared apartment after they moved to LA. But despite the BVS star’s love and admiration for Matt Damon as a person, he “would not suggest living with him” again. Recounting his days living with Damon, Affleck shared a laugh while revealing how untidy his friend can be, claiming he never wash up nor paid bills throughout their entirety of living together.
This resulted in the actor alongside his brother going on a strike against Damon, deciding they won’t clean the place. However, their tactics won’t budge his best friend in any way, as after two weeks of the strike, the two brothers would accept their defeat. Affleck recalled,
“He went weeks, two weeks without touching the apartment … I came home one day and Matt was playing a video game in the middle of what was the living room just surrounded by concentric circles of garbage. I looked down at this sushi thing that is like a week and a half old and there’s maggots. We were like: ‘We submit. You are too good. We cannot beat you’.”
Further having a laugh about his younger days with Matt Damon, Affleck jokingly shared his best wishes to Luciana Barroso for tolerating Damon, stating, “God bless his wife, Lucy. There’s a place for you in heaven.”
Matt Damon commends Ben Affleck the director
Like Ben Affleck, the Oppenheimer star has nothing but respect for his best friend, as he went on to commend the BVS star’s skill as a director. Throughout his illustrious career, Matt Damon has found himself collaborating with some of the best in the game, and he has no problem showering his best friend’s skill behind the lens with appreciation. Damon explained being pals with The Flash star helped the two see eye to eye for Air, and considering the two had no problem calling each other out on their mistakes, it resulted in some quick rectification. He explained,
“You can waste so much time by trying to be polite. In the movie business and in theater, they’ve developed a whole vocabulary for how to talk to somebody — basically, how to tell somebody they’re sucking. And, like, we can just say, ‘You suck.’ Which is really a gift because you get through the bulls— faster and you go, ‘How do we fix it? Just tell me I’ve overacting, you know what I mean?”
But apart from having immense respect and love for each other, the two haven’t backed away from taking a few friendly jabs at each other while being one of the most wholesome duos in Hollywood.
