Revealing his candid decisions during an interview with People magazine, the actor seemed unwilling to repeat Johnny Depp’s mistake with Winona Ryder.

Initially linked in late 2018, as they walked their first red carpet together for the premiere of Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut The Lost Daughter, Jake Gyllenhaal and Jeanne Cadieu have been dating for nearly 5 years. Getting extremely close with Cadieu during the pandemic, the MCU actor began taking things seriously.
Thus recently, after penning his new children’s book, The Secret Society of Aunts and Uncles, Jake Gyllenhaal gushed over his extremely private relationship with his French girlfriend Jeanne Cadieu. Revealing his desire and future plan surrounding his girlfriend, the MCU actor mentioned, “I would love to have a family, and if it’s anything like the family that my sister’s raised and has cultivated, I would be proud,”.
Discussing how his relationship with Jeanne Cadieu has evolved since those early days, Jake Gyllenhaal expressed his candid desire to start a family with his girlfriend. “It’s all about growing together and listening and being open.” Gyllenhaal reflected upon his concept of a family. The actor later went on to speak about his book, without hovering any longer on his relationship.
Jake Gyllenhaal Doesn’t Want To Repeat Johnny Depp’s Mistake
Known for keeping his relationship extremely private, Jake Gyllenhaal seems to be doing things the right way, as he successfully managed to continue his connection for five years. Except for selective public appearances, the actor mentioned doing things in a way that feels natural for them. “It’s no secret that I’m in a relationship and it’s a wonderful relationship,” Gyllenhaal revealed previously.
“We are private, but I guess we are who we are. We’re just living our lives. We always have. And I love that people are interested, but at the same time, it’s like what’s ours is ours.”
Unwilling to repeat mistakes like other Hollywood stars, namely Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder, Jake Gyllenhaal expressed his decision to keep his relationship away from the public eye and media interference. Evidently, since too much media exposure ruins a relationship, Depp and Ryder set an example for other Hollywood couples to come.
The 90s epic love story between Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder apparently came to an end, after facing immense backlash and criticism surrounding their relationship. Constantly being slammed because of the age difference between the two (Johnny 27, Winona 18, at the time) the couple had to unwillingly break off their romance in 1993. Thus, taking the lesson from Depp and Ryder’s relationship, Gyllenhaal seems to keep his romance out of media attention.
