Director James Gunn managed to create quite a buzz around his film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 when he dropped the tracklist for the third installment and it was nothing like fans expected. With this being his last film in the MCU, James Gunn stunned fans when he revealed that the third and possibly final film of the Chris Pratt starrer Guardians of the Galaxy franchise would have a much darker and grittier tone than its predecessors.
The first two films had a notably lighter, comedic tone with classic pop songs at the core of their appeal. They were scored with the seventies hits taken from the two mixtapes made by the late mother of Peter Quill, our protagonist. The third installment, however, will open with Radiohead’s acoustic version of Creep.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Takes A Darker Turn
In the third installment of the fan-favorite franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy, the beloved band of misfits finds themselves on the planet Knowhere. They begin to settle into their lives in their new home, but things start to fall apart when Rocket’s troublesome dark past begins to resurface. Peter Quill must get his team together, and go on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life. Gunn has always said that the Guardians movies have a “secret protagonist”, ie. Rocket, voiced by Bradley Cooper. The director revealed that he relates to the angsty, sarcastic character on a personal level.
The film is drawing closer to launch, and with Chris Pratt as the lead and James Gunn on board, is set to be a major blockbuster.
With the soundtrack reveal indicating a big shift, Pratt also spoke about the noticeable change of tone in the previously light-hearted comedy.
“Overall, the film has matured in its emotionality the same way that probably the audience has matured. The kids who loved Guardians were teenagers, and now they’re in their mid-twenties, and it’s really exciting to think that they’re ready for this movie the way that they might not have been nine years ago.”
Chris Pratt Talks Gold With Blue Already On His Way
After directing the Guardians Trilogy, Gunn has made it clear that he isn’t done with the cast. Both Pratt and Gillian have said they’re open to it joining the director wherever and whenever he calls.
Fans have been excited and eager, wanting to see Chris Pratt playing the role of Booster Gold. He is depicted in the DC comics as a charming rogue-type hero, who time travels from the future. Though the casting isn’t confirmed, Pratt has spoken about it.
“If James thought I was right for it, then you know that would I would have to consider it.”
Booster Gold and Blue Beetle were first seen together in Justice League #4 in 1987, and have been inseparable ever since. After their dynamic was cemented in Justice League International #8, the duo drove the comedy and heart of the Justice League International era for years to come. Eventually, they were seen as best friends on a mission in Blue & Gold #1 by Dan Jurgens and Ryan Sook.
With the release of the Blue Beetle trailer on April 3rd, fans have been hoping to see legendary DC comic buddies Blue Beetle and Booster Gold share the screen.
