Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson began acting in 2001 with The Mummy Returns, but his first big shot was in The Scorpion King in 2002. After that, he’s been in loads of movies and has become arguably the most recognizable film star and certainly the most successful too.
But the success didn’t come to him overnight. It was a gradual process that happened to him because of his hard work and persistence.
It reminds one of his iconic interview with Jamie Foxx, filled with laughter, where he shared hilarious anecdotes from his life. The funny banter and laughter of Johnson with Foxx showed how great of a chemistry they have with each other.
The Time When Dwayne Johnson Got Real With Jamie Foxx
In an Interview on Grey Goose Vodka, Dwayne Johnson got real with the Day Shift actor Jamie Foxx, and shared about his tough early life, getting evicted at 14, moving to Nashville, and even living in a hotel. And still, he kept a very positive outlook on life.
The Rock also told how his goal to play in the NFL didn’t happen. After playing in the Canadian Football League, he went to Tampa, where he only had seven dollars in his pocket. That’s why he started Seven Bucks Productions.
But as he climbed Hollywood’s ladder, the star never forgot his fans, as he explains in the episode of Off Script. Johnson said about his rapport with fans — “It’s the most important relationship that I have.” He is constantly in contact with his via social media.
Dwayne Johnson Reflects on Mistreatment He Faced Early in His Career
Dwayne Johnson also shared his sources of inspiration in acting. He started with Harrison Ford (particularly admiring his portrayal of Indiana Jones). He loved how the character was a tough action hero yet had charm and appreciated women.
The Black Adam actor got candid about being kind and faced mistreatment early in his career. He believes being nice is the simplest thing, way better than being mean. Johnson said in the same interview,
“I remember when I met a few people when I came to Hollywood, I won’t mention their names, there’s no need to, but I met them.”
He continued:
“I was so excited. I was like, Oh! Hey, Good to meet you,’ and then I kind of got blown off, they were like, ‘Get the Fu*k Outta here. That sh*t is real!”
Foxx gave Johnson a pat on the back (through his words), saying he’s thrilled that Johnson has finally reached the place we’ve all been eagerly anticipating.
