Tom Hardy is a well-acquainted name in the Hollywood industry due to the quality of the projects he has starred in. From doing a supporting role in Star Trek: Nemesis to leading Mad Max: Fury Road, the journey has been spectacular. Since then, he has been spotted in a series of great projects including Christopher Nolan’s Inception and The Dark Knight Rises.
He is a well-established personality but he is not immune to jealousy. Back in 2017, the actor opened up about feeling jealous of his senior who used to annoy everyone with his method acting.
Tom Hardy Felt Jealous of Michael Fassbender
Actor, Michael Fassbender has been considered amongst the greatest Irish actors in the industry. He gained mainstream success after portraying the supervillain role of Magneto in the X-Men franchise. The duo went together to the same acting school, Drama Centre London, and honed the skills that they show today.
In an interview with the Daily Beast, Tom Hardy opened up about his experience going to the same school as Fassbender.
“Michael Fassbender was two years above me at drama school and he was the guy.”
He opened up about being kind of overshadowed by him due to him being the popular guy in the class.
“Everybody wanted to be like him—not me, because that’s just the way I am and when people tell me they’re going to do something, I’m like, ‘Nah, I’ll do the other.'”
He further stated about being jealous of the former.
“But secretly I was like, ‘Ah, I wish I was as good as him!’ He was really, really good. He was a special student in the third year.”
After leaving the school, the duo reunited when they did Band of Brothers. He also recalled quite an intriguing incident which rather annoyed him as the former was too immersed in method acting.
Tom Hardy Was Annoyed Due to Michael Fassbender’s Method Acting!
In the same interview, the Venom actor opened up about how his colleague used to annoy everyone around him. At one such incident, he recalled that Fassbender was starring in Sean O’Casey’s play The Silver Tassie. He played the role of a football player “who lost his legs in World War I” and ends up in a wheelchair.
To fully inculcate his character within himself, he used method acting and continued to stay in his wheelchair. The Dunkirk star recalled how everyone had to wait for him for lunch.
“He was spending a lot of time in a wheelchair. We only had half an hour for lunch and Michael would spend forever getting through the line in his wheelchair, so we’d all be like, “Come on, Michael! Just order your food, man!” And he’d spin around in his wheelchair and yell, ‘F–K OFF!'”
Hardy found it quite annoying as everyone around him had to wait for the method actor to slowly wheel down for lunch. Despite the annoyance, he has great admiration for Prometheus star.
