Long before the release of this film, The Sugarland Express film director had predicted and claimed in his interview that this project would be his “most cynical feature.” However, after the film was released, Spielberg accepted that his opinion about his titular film had shifted with time.

In a candid interview, he told Wired,

“I was wrong. It changed. Because, well, it’s not cynical to want to believe that there could be a miracle – that they could stop people from killing in the future. So in a sense, it went from being a cynical story to being a movie about wishful thinking.”

Steven Spielberg talked about what drew him to make Minority Report. He said,

“At its core, the movie is a whodunit. It’s actually a whodunit-to-me. I responded immediately to that. And then, I responded to the myriad; possibilities of creating a future that is not too distant, yet with the kind of technologies we can only dream about but wish we had now.”

Minority Report got released in 2002, and became one of the most-talked-about projects of that year, earning critical acclaim. The Tom Cruise starrer grossed over $358 million at the box office against a production budget of $102 million.
