Robert Downey Jr.’s outstanding performance in Christopher Nolan’s most recent film, Oppenheimer, has garnered widespread attention. As Downey Jr.’s road to fame wasn’t easy, he knows the early day struggle of actors and that’s why he constantly takes care to keep an eye out for his peers on the set.
In Jimmy Kimmel Live! show, actress Zoe Saldana spoke about her tough times and how Robert Downey Jr. sent her a gift to break the ice. Contrary to this nice gesture, Saldana reflected on her experience filming the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, where she played pirate smuggler Anamaria, opposite Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow.

How Robert Downey Jr. Took Care of Zoe Saldana
While appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! In 2018 with MCU stars Robert Downey Jr., Paul Bettany, Pom Klementieff, and Tom Holland; Zoe Saldana revealed that Downey Jr. sent her a gift because she was having a hard time mixing up with her co-stars.
“[It was] one of those shooting times I was so sick and where people were just afraid to come over and say hello. I was just a pathetic green thing on set. There was a knock on my trailer and it was Robert’s assistant dropping off a whole bunch of supplements that he had put together for me as a get-well little package.”
That much welcoming gesture from him made her feel good at the set as she was finding it hard to get along with the other stars.
Zoe Saldana about her Difficult Experience Filming the First Pirates of the Caribbean
While filming Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl with Johnny Depp, Zoe Saldana claimed she felt “lost.”
The actor recently reflected on her role in the 2003 film, in which she played a pirate smuggler named Anamaria.
“It was my first exposure to a major Hollywood mega movie, where there were just so many actors and so many producers and so many crew members,” Saldana said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
“We were shooting in different locations, and the environments were not that agreeable, sometimes, to our shoot days. I was very young, and it was just a little too big for me, and the pace of it was a little too fast.”
Saldana added that she “walked away not really having a good experience from it overall”, explaining: “I felt like I was lost in the trenches of it a great deal, and I just didn’t feel like that was OK.”
The actress claimed that Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer, had apologized to her for the incident on set years later.
Saldana went on to star in two Guardians of the Galaxy films, two Star Trek movies, and Avatar after the first Pirates of the Caribbean.
