The cast of one of the most popular franchises in the world, Harry Potter, have worked together for years. The film series has given some stars like Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, and Tom Felton to Hollywood. Just like their characters, the actors have also developed a very close relationship as they worked with each other for years, especially the golden trio of the wizardry world. However, unlike their characters, they did not have any romantic feelings toward each other.
So it was more than awkward for the Hermoine Granger actress when the story required a kiss scene with her co-star. As Watson sat down with Jonathan Ross, she opened up about how horrible she felt while doing the scene.
Emma Watson Was Not Excited About Kissing Her Co-Star
The final film in the Harry Potter series features Hermione and Ron sharing a passionate kiss after they destroy a Horcrux. While the scene depicts the characters’ feelings toward each other, the actors performing it did not seem to enjoy the moment at all.
Emma Watson, who portrayed Hermione Granger, shared that she felt terrible kissing her co-star Ruper Grint. The 33-year-old actress shared that it was the “most horrible” thing she has ever had to do in her life. She further shared that the whole thing “felt like incest” and she was a little uncomfortable with it.
The Regression star shared that she was at ease when she had her eyes closed. However, it only got harder after they opened their eyes and looked at each other. She said, “The worst bit is when we had to open our eyes and look at each other because then it was just like, and then we couldn’t keep going.”
The Harry Potter stars recalled the same during their appearance on the Harry Potter reunion special. And Watson wasn’t alone in feeling horrible while filming the kiss scene for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.
Everyone Wanted to See Ron And Hermoine’s Kiss
Much like Emma Watson, Rupert Grint also felt weirdly uncomfortable filming the kissing scene for the 2011 movie. During an interview with People, he shared that he and Watson have known each other since they were nine and had a “very brother-sister” relationship.
The duo reflected on the scene during the HBO reunion special, where The Bling Ring star once again described the scene as “horrible.” She also shared that she and her co-stars have always had a sibling-like relationship and it “felt wrong” because of that. Watson also shared that she “was really scared” they won’t get the shot right, as neither she nor Grint was able to take it seriously.
Watson also shared that almost everyone was on the set to see them kiss. “Everyone wanted to be on set for it. Cause everyone was like, ‘This is gonna be good, guys,’” she shared. While the cast of Harry Potter is expected to return with a ninth film in the series, recent reports have suggested that Watson is skeptical about her return.
The Harry Potter franchise is available to stream on HBO Max.
