Tom Cruise is known for his reckless stunts and his commitment to authenticity in his films. In the case of American Made, Cruise’s willingness to put himself in danger went beyond the physical stunts he performed.

He also contributed to the film’s creative process by coming up with new ideas.

Such as the zero-gravity scene between Barry and Lucy was inspired by a real event that happened to the artist and filmmaker Doug Liman. In a previous interview, the Edge Of Tomorrow director disclosed,

“And Tom, for a joke, put the airplane into a parabolic arc, and I woke up as I was being slammed into the ceiling of this airplane. I was pinned up against the ceiling, which I did find funny. It hurt, but I found it funny.”

However, Cruise thought it was humorous, and they decided to recreate the scene in the movie.

In addition to the zero-gravity scene, Cruise also learned how to fly a plane for the film. This level of commitment to realism made American Made a more exciting and immersive film.

Tom Cruise Loves Doing His Wild Stunts

Cruise is one of the few remaining Hollywood action stars who are truly financially successful, and it’s not only because of his youthful features and appealing demeanor.

In a world where real effects are now becoming endangered, he is also enthusiastic and willing to perform his stunts. Many other actors perform parts of their stunts, but few of them go as far as Cruise in their execution.

He hanged from the Burj Khalifa, the highest structure in the world, for the Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol film from 2011; in Top Gun: Maverick from 2022, he piloted his own P-51 Mustang for Maverick’s high-altitude date with Penny played by Jennifer Connelly.

Meanwhile, fans and critics of Cruise are naturally concerned as to why he puts himself in such risky situations when he could simply leave it to the trained stuntmen.

But, the Collateral actor himself appears confused as to why others fail to recognize his tendency to seek out danger. Cruise previously shared with the media, he said,

“No one asked GeneKelly, ‘Why do you dance? Why do you do your dancing?”

However, Cruise’s commitment to doing his stunts is admirable, but it’s also risky. But he seems to be willing to take that risk to give his fans the best possible action experience.
