Gwyneth Paltrow, the actress known famously as Ms. Pepper Potts in the MCU could have been remembered as another name for the world. A name that is far wider and more famous than Potts, Paltrow stated that she once declined the offer for the role of Rose in James Cameron’s magnum opus Titanic.
After the role went to Kate Winslet, Paltrow recalled that she was one of the last two candidates for the role and then she rejected the offer. Recalling a similar experience, the Seven actress also stated that she had to turn down a role in Boogie Night due to her father and her grandfather being conservative!
Gwyneth Paltrow Regrets Turning Down Titanic Back in 1997
Although destiny played a huge part in creating Kate Winselt’s career with her iconic portrayal of Rose, Gwyneth Paltrow helped her too. In a 2015 interview on The Howard Stern Show, Paltrow revealed that she regretted turning down the role of Rose in Titanic when it was initially offered to her back in the 90s.
Stating that the choice made her question her entire life choices, the actress learned an important lesson to not hold onto roles. Paltrow further revealed that she was one of the last two actresses for the role of Rose meaning it was just her and Kate Winslet.
“I know that the story is that I turned it down. I think I was really in contention for it—I was one of the last two. I look back at the choices I’ve made and think, Why the hell did I say yes to that? And no to that? And you know, you look at the big picture and think: There’s a universal lesson here. What good is it to hold on to roles?”
In a funny turn of events, Kate Winslet rejected the role of Viola De Lesseps in the 1998 movie Shakespeare in Love. The role went on to Gwyneth Paltrow for which, the actress won her first Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role!
Gwyneth Paltrow Also Rejected Boogie Nights
Another movie that made it into the list of regrets that Paltrow has accumulated over the years is Boogie Nights. The 1997 movie offered Paltrow the role of a drug-addicted p*rn star called Rollergirl in the movie. Paltrow had to reject the role since her father and grandfather were very conservative and deemed it bad for the actress.
The role later on went to Heather Graham and Boogie Nights received a strong rating of 7.9/10 on IMDB. Although rejecting offers, Paltrow has indeed made a name for herself by starring in the MCU and portraying classic iconic characters throughout her Hollywood career. With a calming point in her career, Paltrow is attached to the TV series One Hit Wonders as an executive producer.
