Dave Bautista On His Embarrassing Tattoo Of Cillian Murphy
One particular tattoo resides on Bautista’s left thigh—a striking portrait of a young man in early 20th-century streetwear accompanied by the words “Gentleman Hooligan.” Inspired by a picture of Cillian Murphy from the popular show Peaky Blinders, Bautista requested his artist to alter the face to avoid a direct resemblance. However, when he shared the tattoo on social media, fans were quick to identify the uncanny similarity to Murphy. Despite feeling a bit cringe-worthy about the mishap, Bautista still cherishes the piece, acknowledging that he is a fan of the superstar.
“I found this cool picture, it was Cillian Murphy from Peaky Blinders, and I asked John to alter it so it didn’t look so much like Cillian Murphy. And I got it and I thought, ‘Okay, that doesn’t look exactly like I have a tattoo of Cillian Murphy on my thigh.’ But the first time I posted it on my social media, all I got was, ‘Oh my God. You’ve got a tattoo of Cillian Murphy. Well, yeah I guess I do. It is what it is. I’m a fan so, you know, a little embarrassed but not ashamed. So Cillian, there you go. Your face is tattooed on my thigh.”
The Guardians of the Galaxy star also shared that he grew up in the streets and considered himself a hooligan. Despite being grown up in a bad environment, Bautista always remained a gentleman and considerate to others. Thus his tattoo of Murphy along with the words “Gentleman Hooligan” was of great significance.
“It just sums me up. It just really does. I grew up on the street. I was a street kid, I grew up in DC. I was on the street…I was on the street you know I was a Hooligan…I worked in nightclubs, I grew up criminals. I grew up in the environment. I was the product of my environment, I got a bit of trouble. But I was always a gentleman.”
With plenty of blank space remaining on his body, Bautista’s tattoo journey is far from over. As he continues to fill in the remaining spots, his tattoos will serve as a lasting testament to the diverse experiences and chapters of his life.
