Sofia Vergara has many times been humiliated or made fun of by her accent despite being the highest-earning actress on TV. While most others would be offended or get discouraged by such treatment, Vergara has never minded and in fact, handled such situations with utmost grace.
Even though fans and other people of color and non-American descent have taken offense to such situations, Tom Cruise’s ex-girlfriend Vergara once even defended a celebrity host who had humiliated her multiple times on TV. And it is nobody else but the recently declared by fans as a ‘Mean Person’, former celebrity host Ellen DeGeneres.
Sofia Vergara Defends Ellen DeGeneres Over Mean Rumors
In the past few years, popular celebrity host Ellen DeGeneres has been accused of toxic workplace behavior and being rude off-camera. Even while on camera and interviewing guests on her show, the popular TV personality has often been caught as being impolite and mean to her guests and making them uncomfortable.
While there have been multiple such instances with many celebrities, the one personality that is often named is TV’s highest-paid actress Sofia Vergara. Despite being an immigrant and the traumatic experiences she had to go through early in her life, she is often made fun of for her English accent. And fans point out that Vergara has had to face this many times during her appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
However, Vergara has always handled the situation with confidence and a few years back even came to the defense of DeGeneres, when she tweeted,
“Two comedians having fun with each other to entertain. I was never a victim guys, I was always in on the joke.”
Despite her comments justifying her time on the talk show, fans pointed out how her being okay with it is and can be problematic for a lot of people since others would get a free pass for making fun of them for the way they speak.
Things That DeGeneres Said To Sofia Vergara That Fans Claimed Were Problematic
Sofia Vergara has been a regular on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and has appeared many times over the years. First appearing in 2010, the actress has a strong Spanish accent due to her Colombian heritage. During her appearances on the show fans have often called out the way the Modern Family actress has been treated.
DeGeneres teaching Vergara English words for ‘fun’ to pointing out how her accent has gotten worse over the years are just the tip of the iceberg that fans found were ‘racist’. Some even called her a hypocrite for criticizing Donald Trump’s anti-immigrant policies while she was not treating Vergara ‘right’.
However, despite what fans say Vergara and DeGeneres continue to be good friends over the years.
