Zoe Saldana has been part of some of the biggest hit films in Hollywood. The 44-year-old actress also starred in the Johnny Depp film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. She played the role of Anamaria in the movie.
In a past interview, Saldana discussed her experience working in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Saldana was very young when she was cast in the movie, with it being one of her first big projects, and the Drumline actress explained how very overwhelming it was for her.
Zoe Saldana said she felt lost when she was filming for the Pirates of the Caribbean movie
During an interview, Zoe Saldana was asked about her experience when she worked opposite Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. The movie was released on 15 August 2003, when Saldana was still a young face in Hollywood. She knew it was a great opportunity, but she wasn’t having a great experience on set. While talking about the movie, the 44-year-old actress said,
“It was my first exposure to a major Hollywood mega movie, where there were just so many actors and so many producers and so many crew members. We were shooting in different locations, and the environments were not that agreeable, sometimes, to our shoot days. I was very young, and it was just a little too big for me, and the pace of it was a little too fast.”
She further added,
“I walked away not really having a good experience from it overall. I felt like I was lost in the trenches of it a great deal, and I just didn’t feel like that was okay.”
Saldana also mentioned that the producer of the movie was aware of the fact that the Star Trek actress had a tough time during the filming. Saldana said after a few years Jerry Bruckheimer reached out to her and apologized.
Zoe Saldana explained how Jerry Bruckheimer’s gesture touched her heart
Saldana claimed Bruckheimer was prepared to bring it up in a press conference and accept full responsibility for what Saldana experienced while the movie was being filmed. The Adam Project actress said during the interview,
“Years later, I was able to meet with Jerry Bruckheimer, who apologized that I had that experience cause he really wants everyone to have a good experience on his projects. That really moved me — the fact that he remembered that I had mentioned that during the press, I guess, or an engagement I had done years before and that he felt compelled to bring it up and to take accountability.”
Zoe Saldana claimed that when Bruckheimer contacted her and they talked about it, it felt wonderful to her to feel seen and heard. Saldana was cast in Avatar and Guardians of the Galaxy after appearing in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
