Quentin Tarantino is remarkably known for the stylized violence which has been one of the prominent elements in his filmmaking style. With his impeccable work in the Hollywood world, it is undeniably a fact that he is among the most influential directors of his generation. While a dark element always gets recognized in his works, he also has a dark but not secret in his life.
With an A-list celebrity status, it is quite uncommon for people to get a hold of their past. However, he did a boss move when he was accused of making up fake stories to be portrayed as a tough guy personality in the industry.
Quentin Tarantino Has Been to Jail Thrice!
The 60-year-old filmmaker, Quentin Tarantino told presenter Ben Mankiewicz on the TYT Network show What the Flick?! about going to jail three times on different matters. He was promoting his then-new film, The Hateful Eight.
“I was in jail three different times, the last time was for eight days. Three days one time, two days another time and eight days last time.”
In his early years, he got arrested for stealing a book from a Californian bookstore and served jail another time after neglecting to pay over $7000 in parking ticket fines.
According to The New York Post, Tarantino first made jail claims back in 1992. He shared at the time,
“If I had a brush with the law, I think I’d wise up fast. I spent eight days in the county jail on traffic warrants once. At first, I thought, ‘Wow, I’m going to pick up some great dialogue in here.’ But then you realise what a waste of time it is. They treat you like an animal, and nobody wants to be treated like an animal.”
In Jeffrey Dawson’s biography, Quentin Tarantino: The Cinema of Cool, he quoted,
“I went to jail about three different times just for warrants on me for moving violations . . . They had warrants on me for three years and eventually I got stopped and they sent me to jail.”
There have been multiple stories revolving around the situations that eventually led him to serve his time in jail. However, the outlet accused the actor of faking his jail times which the director clapped back at.
Quentin Tarantino Fired Back About The Report of Faking Jail Time
The New York Post published an article claiming that the actor was lying about serving his time in jail. The outlet reported that Los Angeles County Department found no record of him being behind bars.
Capt. Christopher Reed of the Sheriff’s Office shared at the time,
“A check of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department jail records revealed no evidence that Mr. Tarantino was ever incarcerated in our jail system.”
As soon as he got aware of the report, he expressed his views by telling Guardian,
“They’re just really bad journalists. It would be so easy for them to look [his jail record] up but they’re not actually doing the work that it takes to look it up.”
Despite the claims from both sides, it never stretched far with his jail time being a great mystery to fans. Despite having a tough childhood, he was able to bloom in a great way in the industry and cemented a strong legacy that inspired many aspiring filmmakers.
