The art of cinema is often toned down to actors and actresses just doing actions and speaking dialogues in front of a camera. But in reality, the process of filmmaking is a long and arduous affair that may have adverse effects on the stars. Scarlett Johansson has experienced this first-hand thanks to her illustrious career filled with many critically acclaimed and commercially successful films.
And while she may be a certified pro in the industry now, the actress has had her fair share of experiences that have left a lasting impression on her to this day, one of which happened to be meeting her idol, Woody Allen. Although she was prepared to meet him with excitement, the experience quickly turned into a nightmare.
Scarlett Johansson Recalled Being Uncomfortable In Woody Allen’s Presence
Being an actor, it’s natural for most of them to have a preference when it comes to the artistic expression of several talented directors in the industry. Scarlett Johansson, one of the most popular and revered talents in the industry, felt this strongly about legendary filmmaker Woody Allen, as she had stated before that she was a big fan of the director’s work over the years. But when it was time to finally become part of one of his projects, things quickly started to go downhill for her.

During the auditions for the then-upcoming Woody Allen romance/drama film Match Point, Scarlett Johansson remembers the long and tiring process that she had to endure in order for a chance to get featured in the film. She remembers meeting the Midnight in Paris director on set, and when he walked behind the camera to see her in action, she felt the pressure add up, which further made her experience miserable. She said:
“We did these camera tests which were horrible, long and Woody was just kind of there and he said, ‘Hey, I’m Woody Allen.’ And he stepped behind the camera and you start coming out in all these outfits. It’s like, my worst nightmare, My first take was horrible. But, then I realized that I better suck it up, because I was going to have seven weeks of this,”
Along with this, she also stated that to break the tension between scenes during their shoots, the director would ask personal questions at random, which also involved him asking about the Black Widow star’s virginity. She clarified that this was because both of them had a mutual understanding and a playful relationship that often made them indulge in banter.
What Was Match Point About?
Considered to be one of Woody Allen’s best works, Match Point doesn’t show anyone with good or bad intentions, in contrast, everyone has that evil in them, and you are welcome to choose between these varying degrees of evil. The story follows Chris Wilton, a tennis pro who has been invited by Tom Hewett to a gala event after he liked him while taking tennis lessons from the player. Here, Tom’s sister falls in love with him, but Chris falls for Tom’s fiancee Nola.
