Jason Momoa is one of the fewest DCEU names who have seen better days in the universe. Aquaman proved to be the highest-grossing DCEU movie and also received positive reactions from most of the fans. The 2018 movie’s casting was also one of the main highlights of the movie having names like Nicole Kidman, Patrick Wilson, Willem Dafoe, and Dolph Lundgren among many others.
But it was surprising for the fans when it was revealed that this magnificent casting troubled Jason Momoa. While the Arthur Curry star repeatedly appreciated his co-stars and acknowledged having an amazing experience with them, he was particularly terrified of working alongside Kidman.

Why was Jason Momoa terrified of working with Nicole Kidman?
It must be remembered that there has never been any bad situation between the Aquaman lead and Nicole Kidman. Jason Momoa also took to several interviews to admit one of his best working experiences with Tom Cruise’s ex. But along with that, the experience also made the star afraid as for the first time, he worked with someone of that stature.
Nicole Kidman played the role of Queen Atlanna in the 2018 movie who is the mother to Momoa’s lead hero and the former Queen of Atlantis. When the 43-year-old actor was asked about his experience with the Oscar-winning actress, he couldn’t stop speaking about how blessed he felt. But along with that, he was also afraid as never before he worked with a star of such a level.
“I was extremely scared because I was like, ‘Oh my God, she’s so amazing.’ I’ve never worked with anyone that came close to an Academy Award. She was just this amazing woman and one of the greatest acting experiences I’ve ever had.”
Jason Momoa also praised The Hours actress by admitting that watching her doing her job with ease was one of the most beautiful things. Even though a handful of audiences complained claiming Kidman was too young to play Atlanna, Aquaman went on to earn around $1.1 billion worldwide.
As the 2018 James Wan directorial is heading to its sequel scheduled to be released this year, Nicole Kidman is set to reprise her role in Aquaman and the Last Kingdom. Although the movie has already been subjected to several controversies, recent statements by the director show that the makers are desperate to bring back the audiences to DC movies.
What did James Wan say about Aquaman 2?
One of the leading troubles with Aquaman and the Last Kingdom was Amber Heard’s casting as Mera. The actress’ image is anything but good following the highly publicized trial with ex-husband Johnny Depp and the fans desperately demanded a recast. But the makers instead opted to reduce her scenes.
More problems rose as early test screening reports suggested the movie to be so bad that the audiences couldn’t even endure it to last. This led to numerous reshoots in which James Gunn’s DC takeover also played a major role. As revealed by James Wan himself, the movie went through many changes as the studio constantly experienced changes before Gunn and Safran finally took over as the co-heads of the new DCU. Now recent statements by Wan suggest that he has taken a standalone approach for Aquaman 2 so that it can stay away from the DCEU-DCU confusion.
“Well, Aquaman – even the first film – has always been a very stand-alone film. That was always our approach: that it kind of lives in its own world, and that’s kind of how we’ve approached The Lost Kingdom as well.”
James Gunn also announced that the movie will directly lead to his new DCU which will be kicked off by Superman: Legacy. It is also reported that numerous changes have been done to the story to fit it into their new plans. But it can’t be denied that the Jason Momoa movie will face a huge challenge after The Flash’s box-office disaster even after having so much hype.
Aquaman and the Last Kingdom will hit theaters on December 20, 2023.
