While filming the Avengers movies, Chris Pratt and his co-star Pom Klementieff kept in touch with Gunn to ensure they were headed in the right direction. Gunn claims that she and Pratt called him from the Avengers set to check in and ensure they were headed in the right direction.

“I can’t imagine playing Mantis with someone else writing the words. I was being given directions, and I was like, ‘I think I’m going to call James.”

James Gunn also admitted he had issues with how the heroes were portrayed in the Avengers films.

“They did some things that I wouldn’t have wanted.”

Although he believed Peter Quill/Star-Lord would have killed Gamora if she had asked, Gunn thought it was bad for him to punch Thanos in the face at a crucial moment.

What Does This Mean for the MCU?

In the MCU, where heroes from different franchises often team up on the screen, communication between the teams in charge is essential. Finding a happy medium between being true to the characters and allowing the story to flow naturally is crucial.

The Guardians of the Galaxy films have had previous disagreements with the Avengers film directors. Drax the Destroyer actor Dave Bautista complained that the comedy was taken out of his character’s script for Infinity War.

Bautista also said that Disney made the wrong decision in dismissing James Gunn as director of the third Guardians of the Galaxy film after racist and sexist tweets from Gunn’s past surfaced. It’s difficult to combine characters from different franchises into one film, as Chris Pratt disagrees with the directors.

In creating a shared universe that fans have embraced, the MCU has successfully brought together characters from different series. It’s getting harder to please everyone who cares about all the different characters in the franchise as it grows.

As impressive as the MCU has accomplished this much thus far, disagreements like these could make it harder to maintain the franchise’s momentum. With James Gunn’s careful direction and the actors’ dedication, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 promises to be an exciting addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be released on May 5, 2023.
